WARNING--This post is 100% biased and written by someone who believes in speaking in tongues and does it many hours per day along with other "manifestations" of the Holy Spirit. This post is not an attempt to "convert" anyone to my way of thinking, only to publicly announce what I believe. Thank You.

There is a current "hot" blog right now dealing with the subject of speaking in tongues. Rather than attempt to add anything to the current discussion going on there, I thought I would simply bring back to the forefront, for anyone willing to go back in the archives, a couple of posts I wrote April 6 and 7 of this year. The first one was entitled "Why I speak in tongues so much" and the second one was entitled "The real reason I speak in tongues so much".

If you were to go back and read one or both of those blog posts, you find out real fast that there are no Bible verses and no theological positions. The reason for this is because way back in 1970 when a group of teenagers and a long haired dope smoking hippie led me into tongues, there were no Bible verses-only the power of the Holy Spirit in operation.

I have been discussing and debating people about speaking in tongues for 38 years. Pretty much it is a subject a person either wants to know more about and perhaps experience, or it is weird and to be ignored or disputed. Most Christians has never heard of tongues or seriously thought about the subject. Speaking in tongues is simply not an important issue to most Christians.

When I first was taught that speaking in tongues was available, it was something I wanted to do it. The blog posts I wrote in April document how God took the desire in my heart and fanned it into a daily habit I have practiced now for almost 40 years. Even yesterday while I was driving, I spoke in tongues out loud for almost 5 hours.

Those of you who have read many of my posts know beyond a shadow of the doubt that I love the Word of God and at times I have tried to teach it in its minute detail. Why then would I not want to get involved with a scriptural discussion regarding a subject I am so passionate about? Mainly because I just don't feel like arguing with people anymore about speaking in tongues. To me, it is so much a part of my life that it would be like arguing from a medical book the reason for drinking water or breathing. I find no need to defend something that is as much a part of me as the air I breathe or the water I drink.

I speak in tongues, and I speak in tongues MUCH. In public meetings I have spoken in tongues and given the interpretation of that tongue so that others may be edified. I have given thousands of words of prophecy over the years, mainly in a meeting when called upon by the leader to do it. I have given words of prophecy over couples I have married, children I have baptized and dedicated, over others I have helped ordain and once at a memorial service.

I have discerned more demons than I could possibly remember. I have received specific words of knowledge about situations as well as words of wisdom on how to handle situations. To me, this is called revelation, and I am not ashamed to admit I have received revelation thousands of times in my life. I have manifested faith so strong I could have walked on water. I have prayed for the sick and they have been healed. I have prayed for miracles and seen them happen before my very eyes.

I am not bragging, I am simply telling the truth. I happen to believe that God has given us spiritual power within the Holy Spirit we received when born again. Jesus told the disciples that they would receive POWER. This power is found in the inherent ability to manifest the Holy Spirit in the senses realm via the 9 gifts recorded in 1 Corinthians 12.

I know the vast majority reading this probably think I hit the pain pills too hard. I haven't taken any pills and I am simply relating what I believe and have proven by experience. What am I supposed to do with the pages upon pages of documented miracles I have been a part of over the years. Am I supposed to just dismiss them because I cannot explain them?

We can discuss and debate things 24 hours per day for decades and never arrive at any answer that has any power. As believers, we need to exercise our spiritual authority and manifest the spiritual power we have been given and not come up with ways to deny it. Paul prayed in Ephesians that God would open their eyes of their understanding to what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us who believe!

Taped on the wall above where my wife works on the computer all the time is a page with a prayer on it. This prayer was placed as a comment after I had written a post last winter bemoaning my wife starting to come down with the flu. One of you took the time to write a prayer rebuking the flu and claiming the victory of healing for my wife. I copied that prayer and took it down to her that night. She read, she believed and she never did get much of that flu except for some cold symptoms and a little fatigue.

There is POWER in Christianity if we tap into it and then manifest it. We don't need a stage and a big expensive program. No, we just need a couple of believers who mutually believe in what is available from God because He has said so. My wife saw a miracle of healing that night last winter, and to remind her of God's power, she keeps that prayer taped where she sees it every day. I say thank you again for praying for her and thank God we have the power to manifest the Holy Spirit in such a way we can see signs, miracles and wonders.

B2Y,
I don't mean to sound flip or argumentative, but curious: Why would you speak in tongues when you're by yourself? Who's listening? Doesn't God speak English fluently? Seems to me that it serves no purpose.

Gee, that sounds kinda in-your-face and I don't mean that at all. Be sure to read that with *love* my tone of voice

I hope you do not think I am trying to "come up with ways to deny" the power of God. Giving a disclosure that this is only what you believe does not make it any less hurtful. Brother, we may differ in our expressions of faith in Christ, but we both cling to the true "power of God" in his cleansing blood. It is my hope, my passion, my love and my life. Faith, hope and love are all that will truely matter in the end. I respect your views and the expression of your faith.

Brother B2Y,

First of all, thanks for the warning. It is the type of warning which will cause me to gather in as close to the speaker as I can get. I love to enter into a service where the Holy Spirit has complete control. Some of these services are services of two. Only me and the Holy Spirit as you have described in your ride home. One would have to experience the miraculous things God does in one's life during a five hour prayer session in tongues. Just think of it. Five hours of praying in the perfect will of God. Brother, your ministry is going to flourish and keep flourishing as long as you continue entering into the Spiritual realm and worshiping in the Holy Spirit.

The two blogs you referred to I read at the time they were published. They were really a blessing for me as I am sure they were for anyone who read them with an open mind and no preconceived notions. One must remember the Holy Spirit is gentle and will never force us to believe or accept anything we choose not to. God wants us to love Him through our own free will. He wants to feel our love from our hearts not from fear.

Tongues is something most Christians reject simply because they were raised in a church or by parents who do not believe they are real. Some even believe they are of the devil and designed to disrupt Christian services. This is another ploy the devil uses to steal from us a gift which God gives us freely and a gift which will strengthen us in our service.

I loved the way you described tongues (and I'm sure you are including other Spiritual gifts) being so much a part of you they are like the water you drink and the air you breathe. My brother, I truly believe that is exactly how it should be in all our lives.

Yes brother, all the gifts are "real" and available for us today. God knew how hard it would be for His people to survive in a pagan world so He has equipped us with Power from On-High. We are soldiers of the Cross and He has armed us for the battle. Nothing the enemy can do will penetrate our faith because we are armed and equipped to face anything he can possible throw our way.

Pain pills??? You are high all right but what you are high on is God and you are basking in His Holy Spirit. Keep drinking the wine of the Holy Spirit my brother. The time is late and it is a dangerous world we live in. The devil knows he only has a short time remaining.

When Paul reminded Timothy to stir up the gift of God which is within him, he was also talking to each born again believer. God has equipped us with every Spiritual gift and every Spiritual gift is found in the Holy Spirit who lives within each believer. The very Power of God resides within us. With the Power of the universe residing within us how could we possibly have a spirit of fear?

It is time for all Spirit filled believers to stand up and be counted. God has placed His Church on earth to be a light to the world. Sadly this light has been hiding under a bed somewhere for the most part.

The Spirit is calling, "come out from under the bed and shine like the Light of Eternity." All of us are eternal beings and when we do enter into the eternal state we want to lead every human who lives in our lifetime into the light with us, not the darkness. To do this we must stir up the gifts God has placed within each believer.

He who receives us receives Jesus and he who receives Jesus also receives God who sent Him. We must not fear rejection for he who rejects us rejects the One who sent us. We must continuously battle for these that God will open their eyes and they will see the Light.

To Grace : I don't know about B2Y but I speak in tounges because it's a lanuage only God understands, it's special, an intimacy with God that I really can't even begin to put into words. It's one of those things you have to experience to understand.

Thank you for the wonderful comments. The apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14 that he spoke in tongues more than anyone else. I figure if it was good for him to do so much, it must be a good thing to do. All I know is that the more I speak in tongues, the closer and more vibrant my fellowship with God becomes. It is as if just He and I are alone in a cabin somewhere holding hands and communicating things from the depths of the heart no one else could understand. It is as if I am speaking His language.

You know, English is not God's primary language. When he put people on earth they all spoke one language according to Genesis. It was only at the tower of Babel that God divided the languages so man could not try to be God. Some of us believe that on the Day of Pentecost, God reunited the one language in speaking in tongues. We know that when one speaks in tongues it is the language of men or of angels. But, there is an aspect of speaking in tongues which is strictly "prayer language" which I believe is God's language.

I am not nor was I making any statement brother Wormwood about you "denying the faith". That was simply a blanket statement directed at Christians everywhere who seem to spend more time trying to prove things like speaking in tongues are unneeded than possibly seeing if the opposite might be true. I in way was implying anything that would produce hurt, and I apologize if it did. NOT my intent at all.

One of my personal "pillars of faith" is my absolute conviction that believers are to manifest the Holy Spirit and see the power and might promised to us in Ephesians. Due to how God worked with me in regards to speaking in tongues, I have no options but to stake my very life on what I have shared about the topic.

Just checking my gadgets this morning to see what's happening and saw your post.
Seems I have missed a couple blogs I need to search for.

When I was but a wee Christian I wondered about this, saw others do it and others interpret.
So I prayed, I wanted then, and still want, to be open and willing to serve Jesus with all I have and all He has given us, to serve Him.
My prayer was answered one evening in Church, I interpreted.
That was a long time ago, and much has happened since, much like you write here.

We are told in scripture the spirit also prays for us, so in prayer and my contemplations on God I always allow for the spirit to help with prayer and guidance.

I have found most people sit in one of two camps; Manifest of the Spirit was for the early Church only and not present today or it is the same today for us as much as it was for the early Church. I hold to, God nor His Spirit has changed, nor His ways.

As you have probably found it is hard to teach and explain the over flowing power and filling of the power of the Holy Spirit when you allow him to work through you and in you.

Sadly there are many ways to stop or hinder the spirit from being active in our daily lives, whether it be for personal benefit in prayer and study or a benefit for the Body of Christ in understanding and teaching.

For all my study and all my nick picking in and of the word of God, of all my arguments against or for different understandings of meanings in the word of God.
This is one subject I can no more defend or support in speech or word put to say:
Pray for understanding God,
Ask and you will receive,
Seek and you will find,
Allow in your mind, heart and soul God to use you for His glory,
Be willing and open to the Spirit that abides within you,
Be willing to be a fool for God.

Perhaps this was a post, I wanted to share my agreement here for this post.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Back in 1974 a little after I was saved, my co-worker invited me to go to her church
picnic. They were all very warm and friendly, and I remained at First Fundamental Bible Church for about 8+
years. It was a bible based teaching church, and during service we exercised opening our bibles frequently.
Our biggest duty as members of the church was inviting friends and sharing the gospel. The pastors main
teaching focus was the great commission, law vs. grace sermons, with frequent alter calls resulting in many
souls getting saved. An ongoing under belly theme was healing and tongues was for the making of the bible,
in bible times only to help increase our faith. Healing and tongues, signs and wonders was not for us today.

One day a youth group started to venture outside the teachings of the Fundamental Church. Rumors
had it that the youth were encouraging other youth to talk in tongues. The authorities asked all the youth
that were talking in tongues to leave the church because this behavior was from the devil.
There were a lot of parents attached to this youth group. It caused a huge division, breaking the church
off , about 1/3 of the membership.

Myself, having had the Spirit of Fear and not knowing anything about that scary stuff, was fine with me.
About that same time , I had a new 73 year old roommate, and her name was Florence, she was a
4 square church member. When we prayed , she would often break out in tongues, sometimes she would
lay her hands on me. Because I did not want to hurt her feelings, I allowed her to lay hands on me,
while rolling my eyes to the back of my head. But she was the Spiritual mom that the Lord had
provided for me, and she love to tell people I was her daughter. Soon many years would pass,
and one day I found Florence crying. She said she felt her spirit leaving her body, and the
voice of the Lord said, Florence "On hold" , and "wait". She was 93 years old and said, I want to go home
with my Lord, I don't understand why the Lord doesn't take me home now , I am ready to go home NOW.

Then I said Oh, I am so sorry, ITS MY FAULT.......she opened her big blue eyes,
and looked at me like I was NUTS. Oh, I am so sorry, I have been praying to the Lord for 20 years not to
take you from me because then I would not have a mom. I told God, Lord you have all eternity
with Florence and I need her here with me on earth. So after that encounter with Florence that day,
I started prayind and crying. God I RELEASE Florence NOW because she wants to be with you,
please take her now , she does not want to be on earth anymore, but PLEASE don't take her
before Christmas. My last 3 weeks with Florence I decided to submit to her efforts of praying for me to receive
the gift of tongues. I said to Florence, I have been living this Christian Life my way and it has been
very hard and I am tired of failing at it. So, if you are willing to pray over me, I will accept any good
gift God wants me to have, whatever it may be. All I know is I am tired of doing Christianity my way.
Florence opeded her big bright blue eyes with total surprise. All I knew was I was her spiritual daughter
for 20 years, she consistently broke out in tongues while we prayed , and she never hurt me or acted
like the devil was inside of her.

She laid her hands on my head, and said "LORD JUST GIVE HER ONE WORD", "ONE WORD LORD"
she said that over and over again, and then my tongue was moving, and I could speak.
But Florence never heard me speak in tongues, because she was waiting so long for me to come around
and or believe, and her being 93 years old she was now very deaf and blind. At that moment of
my life, saying a pray was easier, it was less of a physical burden or duty and or WORK
to pray.

Now being married to a Lutheran man, a doctor and a minister for many years, this was going to be
very interesting. When I did not want to get up and go to church , he would pull me on the floor by my
ankles from the bottom of the bed and say "YOU ARE GOING TO WORSHIP TODAY"

I said to God HEY, I am not a Lutheran anymore....."I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE".....
I guest that makes me one of THEM now"

The Holy Ghost piped up immediately and as clear as a bell said:

"HEY !, I DID NOT GIVE YOU THE GIFT OF TONGUES TO CAUSE A DIVISION !! "

" I GAVE THAT GIFT TO YOU SO YOU, WILL BE EMPOWERED FROM ON-HIGH TO DO MY WORK"

A week after Christmas when I went to see Florence, I walked into her room finding only a black vinyl mattress.

I am a beginner, and I did not have anyone to share my experience with, I had no training and Florence
WAS gone. I could not find a teaching on it, preaching or Knew any friends, or where to start.

The empowerment right after the tongue experience was an enormus urge to go witness, and
share the gospel with everyone I came in contact with. So this must be the work the Holy Ghost was
talking about His Great Commission. Right then I became a called worker into his harvest field.

Remember what Jesus asked us to do, is pray to the Father to send laborers out into the harvest field,
because the harvest is plentiful , but the workers are FEW.. So the primary purpose of recieving power
from on high is for the Great Commission, So if you really want to be mean to your brother or sister
who talks in tongues, ask them when was the last time they shared the gospel with someone.
SO when they answer, I have gotten away from the witnessing business, say to them "shame on you".
I am speaking and rebuking myself right this minute in front of you. I have lost my orginial purpose
for the gift which was to be enpowered to do his Great Commission work, which is IN his will for all of us.

I have gotten away from the orginial purpose ...yes....But the Lord is good to let me still enjoy all the
benefits. I figured out something, when I play in my words I may not ask for the right thingS,
or pray the right words, some times I don't even know what I want or what is best for my life.

So I figured, I will let the Holy Ghost pray, and when the Holy Ghost prays, my sinful motives,
and fleshly sinful desires and wants are excluded for his prayer. That means the Holy Ghost prays the
right words, with the right motives and totally perfectly having the mind of God himself, and being
one with the God head.....So that means God's answer to the Holy Ghost prayers is a great BIG YES.
Yes, Yes straight from the Father himself, because the Holy Ghost just prayed God's perfect WILL FOR ME.

These are the few benefits I am talking about. Now remember I am so a beginner, so most recently this year
I have discovered something else. I have learned if I allow the Holy Ghost to pray for me in his language,
LISTEN to me, I have to allow it, I have to give up my time and MY body for this practice and or exercise.
If God did not deliver me from the SPIRIT OF FEAR, I would be to scared to allow it in my life.

Now most recently, I have learned while I chose to devote an hour a day of praying and singing in
tongues in worship. God is "BIRTHING " his next steps and his WILL in me to perform. For example; When I pray
for others salvation and healings it does not feel like work , anymore, because it is his WILL.
But remember there are fringe benefits in spending time with the Lord, and that is God the Father
and Jesus his Son, and the Holy Ghost will lead me into the path of BLESSINGS, SAFETY, AND
HEALTH AND PROSPERITY.

AND to be very practical he open new doors , for me to obtain work, as an agency nurse.
I do not have a full time reg. job here in WA . state. I have to live by faith daily, and reley on him
to pay my rent, food, bills etc. Right now I have no job , no car , no medical insurance, no mother
and no father to depend on for help only our Lord. Praying an hour in tongues each morning helps
me to keep my mind stayed on him, where Jesus is sitting up in the heavenlies, thus keeping me in
perfect peace.

Dear Brothers and sisters , Lets stop pulling each other from OUR Holy ankles, because we don't
WORSHIP ALIKE....... I think this makes our SWEET SWEET HOLY SPIRIT CRY........AMEN?

Thank you for taking the time to share that lengthy but very moving testimony to our God's goodness and love. I am so thankful things turned out as they did, even if your "spiritual mom" had to depart a little early. Thank you and may God richly bless your heart for sharing.

B2Y AND GRAND MA God bless you both it good to hear others whom speak the same language keep allowing the Lord to use you and never stopped telling of His marvelous works. Its good to remind others that we are works in progress. But undoubtly this comes from reading your BIBLE-" Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth" If we don't read and understand it how can we get to Heaven. that's the whole problem you can't do it your way but Gods way.
