About 100 residents showed up for a community meeting Thursday night on crime in Fort Mill – most of them drawn there by concern over a would-be burglar who shot at a homeowner last week on Fairway Drive.

Graduating seniors in the Fort Mill school district fared better on last school year's SAT than all but one of the state's 85 districts, according to results released last week .

Members of the Nation Ford Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recently attended the S.C. State Conference in Columbia.

Over the years, my kids have attended Arts Council of York County art classes and summer camps. Camps this year included collage and mixed media, drawing for kids and teens, and 3-D sculpture. Works created by kids during the camps are on exhibit downtown, and the creativity is mind-boggling.

The excitement within the community was almost palpable as members of the Sun City Carolina Lakes Volunteers and Helping Hands Club loaded resident-donated school supplies into four large vehicles and drove them over to Indian Land Elementary School on Aug. 20.

Buster Deal was a motorcycle-riding, honky-tonkin' cowboy who loved to drink a cold one while tossing horseshoes in the dirt-pits behind his Buster & Eddie's bar near McConnells.
