For a limited time, Magellan RoadMate 300 buyers and owners can get an SD card preloaded with regional street-level maps – yes, for free.
Thales is offering a free 256MB SD card with regional area maps to anyone who registers their Magellan RoadMate 300 online by Sept 30th, 2005. The SD card alone is worth something, and having the maps already pre-loaded on the card makes things easier for the average consumer (the RoadMate 300 comes with map CDs, so you can download such street-level maps yourself – this is just easier, and did I mention FREE?).
If you don’t already own a GPS unit, the Magellan RoadMate 300 is very aggressively priced right now for a compact, portable, full-color LCD unit, and with the addition of the free map card it’s almost ‘ready to go’ right out of the box. It has the most necessary features of its big-brother units (the 500 and 700 RoadMates), including a touch-screen LCD, 2D and 3D map views, turn-by-turn voice prompts, points of interest, etc. Oh, and all RoadMate 300 users should check their firmware version, as there have been a number of free firmware updates that have added and fixed features in the unit.

I called Magellan to complain and they simply told me that updated maps will be for sale for a fee of $100 at the end of this year. They have terrible customer service for their product based on this and the way they treated me. It’s still a good buy, just be sure to check out other brands. Delorme has awesome maps…

I do see a lot of problems with the mapping sofftware being out of date. Many businesses listed are incorrect (and these are stationary businesses for 5+ years). I called Magellan to complain and they simply told me that updated maps will be for sale for a fee but none was planned. The second time I called I was told updates were done normally every 18 months. They have terrible customer service for their product based on this and the way they treated me.

i got magellan last year very dissappointed was no were near update then for irish towns half of them when u enter them the map went white cant up date them either what a waste of money up the tomtom
