Mitsubishi Launches Huge New HDTV Lineup

One day, many different press releases. A ton of new Mitsubishi HDTV sets will be hitting the market, and that means great deals all around!

To summarize before moving onto the releases, Mitsubishi today announced two new Plasma HDTVs, two new LCD HDTVs, four new LCD thin rear-projection HDTVs, and a rash of new 1080p DLP microdisplay HDTVs.

The new Mitsubishi Plasma sets include a 42″ and a 50″ PDP, the former running at 1024x768, while the latter runs at the higher 1365x768 true-widescreen aspect ratio. Both units include 12-bit color for higher fidelity, HDMI input for one-cable direct digital video and audio, and removeable bottom-mount speakers.

Continuing the launch, two new Mitsubishi LCD HDTVs join the lineup, with a 32″ and 37″ model. These aren’t ordinary LCD TVs though. The 37″ unit is an amazing 1920 x 1080p resolution, for beyond full HD limits (nobody is broadcasting 1080p yet, though 1080i can use a ‘filler’ model for exceptional clarity). Both units boast dual HDMI, component, composite, and s-video connections, plus IEEE1394/Firewire, and have both a built-in cable HDTV tuner and accept a CableCARD for full control of your digital cable. The dual HDMI ports is a big win, as is an included 15-foot HDMI cable so you don’t have to buy one to get up and running. Both units also have 9-in-1 memory card readers, and can browse photos or play audio files direct from memory cards.

The new microdisplay LCD HDTVs include two 52-inch and two 62-inch units, with the upper models sporting some new image-enhancing technologies for even better pictures. All four units have 1280x720 HD resolution, three-chip LCDs, 720p upscaling technology for lower-quality sources, integrated HDTV tuners, CableCARD slot, multiple HDMI and component inputs, and IEEE1394/Firewire.

Finally, there are a total of nine new 1920 x 1080p DLP microdisplay HDTV units added to the lineup. The first five models range from 52-inch to 72-inch size, all have 1080p upconversion, two HDMI inputs, three component inputs, and a 9-in-1 memory reader (we see a pattern here!). Plus IEEE1394 on the front panel (camcorder access), HDTV tuner, and CableCARD slot. The other four models are ‘upgrades’ of the other 62-inch and 73-inch models, sharing the same feature list I just gave, but adding in 160GB or 250GB hard-drive digital video recorders built into the TV set. All come with dual HDTV tuners, so you can record one channel while watching another, both in HD. And the two ‘upper’ units also throw in a set of computer AV inputs, perfect for connection with a Media Center PC.
