Acer America Launches New Digital LCD Display Lineup

Three new models, all with pretty decent specs, and amazing prices, could grab some market share.

Acer 20" Widescreen AL2032d Prestige LCD Monitor

Since the press release, and the Acer website, details all the specifics, I’ll cover the highlights quickly.

The two new base models of the digital Prestige LCD line are the AL1732d and AL1932d, 17″ and 19″ LCDs. Both sport a fast 12ms pixel response, 1280x1024 resolution, VGA, DVI-D, and video inputs, built-in 2W speakers, ‘average’ 140x140 degree visibility, but good brightness and contrast ratings. The amazing thing is given those features, the 17″ is $329, and the 19″ is $489. Pretty impressive.

But wait! Now we get to my favorite, the AL2032wd 20″ widescreen LCD. Dropping back to a nominal 16ms response, the 20″ unit sports the typical 1680x1050 widescreen resolution, the same VGA/DVI/video inputs of the lower models, a bump up to 5W speakers, and a 178x178 view angle. Now, hold your breath: it has a $649 price-tag. Yowza! That should give the close-matching Dell2005FPW display that we’ve covered (and gotten great response to!) a real run for its money. Now given, the Dell can be had for the same price with the coupons Dell runs every week or two, or bundled with a PC, but the Acer is that price just walking into a local retailer with stock!

We’re looking forward to comparing the 20″ Acer against the Dell (and Apple), to see how it stacks up.

Read on for the full press release.
