ViewSonic New Xtreme ClearMotiv LCD Monitor Lineup

The new displays are claiming an Xtremely fast response rate, targeting video playback and gaming markets head-on – and they have the potential to seriously capture the gamer audience.

ViewSonic Xtreme VX924 4ms Refresh LCD Display

The new VX924 (due in May) and VX724 (due in June) are the first consumer displays we’ve heard of to offer super-high 4ms average gray-to-gray pixel response rate (and 5ms ‘typical’), which should make them capable displays for even the fastest FPS shooters on a heavy-modded gaming rig. Imagine that you can finally keep above 100fps (heck, typically should handle up to 200fps!) without dropping a frame, making it perfect for the frag-addicted in need of desktop space.   ; )

The VX924 is a 19″ LCD, with 1280x1024 resolution, 160-degree viewing angles, 270 nits brightness, and 500:1 contrast, normal/reasonable stats for a higher-end display. It has both VGA and DVI-D inputs, and buttons for switching back and forth between the two if you want to connect multiple computers. It comes with both the VGA and DVI cables, so you don’t have to go buy anything. And to protect your investment, ViewSonic throws in a three-year limited warranty.

ViewSonic Xtreme LCD Press Release

ViewSonic Accelerates Display Leadership with World’s Fastest LCD Monitors

Xtreme Line Delivers Industry’s Best Response Times, Up to 8 Times Faster than Most Competitors

WALNUT, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–March 16, 2005–Demonstrating its technology leadership in the display market, ViewSonic® Corp., a worldwide leader in visual display products, today announced the world’s fastest LCD monitors. Featuring ultra-fast 4 millisecond (ms) average video response time across the entire color scale, the 19-inch VX924 and 17-inch VX724 deliver fluid, full-motion images and optimized video performance for a variety of applications.

With typical “fast-response” displays on the market today having an average gray-to-gray (or intermediate level) response time of 30 to 35ms, ViewSonic’s Xtreme LCD lineup provides response time performance up to 8 times faster. They are ideal for extreme gaming, viewing DVDs, watching television, and even traditional computer usage–such as rapidly scrolling content within a Web site or a document.

“Achieving the best results with gaming, streaming video and motion application usage has long been the domain of CRT technology,” said Jennifer Gallo, research analyst, IDC. “With manufacturers incorporating better technology, such as faster response times, we should see more of a shift toward LCD displays for these demanding applications.”

The VX924 and VX724 are the first desktop displays to combine ViewSonic’s proprietary Dynamic Structure™ and Amplified Impulse™ video response acceleration technologies to support rates of up to 250 frames per second across the entire color scale. This advancement produces superior front-of-screen performance for motion video, since the majority of video transitions on games and digital entertainment occur within these intermediate ranges.

“Breaking down barriers and setting new benchmarks for display technology demonstrates ViewSonic’s unwavering commitment to delivering the highest-quality visual experience,” said Jeff Volpe, vice president, marketing, ViewSonic Americas. “Our Xtreme LCD offerings open up new opportunities for our customers and partners by providing exceptional performance for a variety of applications and markets.”

The displays will be available in the second quarter of 2005 through traditional ViewSonic resellers, distributors and mail order. For more information and images of the new displays, go to www.viewsonic.com/xtreme.

You forgot one important point about these new monitors, who wants to play a game at 1280x1024? This would be an exciting announcement if the new Monitors supported 16x12 or 19x12 in native resolution.
