I had originally worked on this WordPress theme as a mini project for someone, thought I’d finish it up and give it out to folks. Now with WordPress 2 out, I’ve released an update..
It’s based on a design by Doug Bowman called Minima Black, originally for Blogger. I took the basic design/layout, and mapped it into WordPress terms, tweaked the styles a bunch to get it close (it’s STILL not perfect, never will be, the guy’s a genius!), and just did the remaining work on writing up the template changes, and making the calendar look halfway-decent. New for WP2 are fixes for the comment form and built-in CG-Amazon styling support to match the dark look.

dss said:David,
This theme is great! very stylish, thank you.
i found an error people trying to get it working might want to know about.
in the index.php file there is an issue with comments which prevent the sidebar from loading:
find:replace with:
and that’s about it… otherwise, working fine here in WP1.2
thank you!
dss said:erm… ok. looks like the code tag ate it.
find this:
comments_template();
and replace it with this:
Kevin said:include(ABSPATH . ‘wp-comments.php’);
Absolutely love the layout!
david said:Glad you like it – I just moved it over to WP, and tweaked it some…
Mike said:Is there an update necessary for this to work with WP 2.0.1? For the life of me, I can’t get it to work, and I’ve always enjoyed this particular style. I appreciate anyone’s help.
david said:Yeah, I hadn’t touched this in a year and a half! I threw together a quick revision to support WP2. Let me know how it works.
Jeff Kopp said:Hey, great theme! This is exactly what I was looking for and was the sole reason I decided to dump Blogspot in favor of WordPress. My one main issue at this point is I’m having problems trying to get the “Blogroll” heading (link category style) in the Sidebar to appear the same size as the other headings in the Sidebar (Pages, Categories, Search, Archives, & Meta). It’s too small as it is now. I have tried to adjust the h2 size in the Stylesheet from 78%/1.4em to 100%, but it looks a little too big that way and also effects the size of the date on the posts, which I don’t want to do. So can you please explain to me how I can make the “Blogroll” heading that appears in the Sidebar the same size as the rest of those headings without it effecting it elsewhere?
Thanks!

The theme doesn’t do the sidebar titles as headings but just the text inside the opening [li]. HOWEVER, some internal WP functions are adding H2’s around block titles (BAD!). All you need to do to work-around the issue is some CSS like:
shannon said:#menu h2 {font-size:100%;
}
Hi, Just installed WP2 for a second blog on my site and wanted to try out this theme. In the admin panel I’m getting a message that it’s a broken theme and is missing the stylesheet, but I see it there! Any help? Sorry I’m not all that technically inclined for these sorts of things - like figuring out if I need to move .css or what to get it to work. Thanks.
david said:shannon- should just work. I’d delete it off the server, try uploading again. Sounds like a corrupted file or something.
BillyG said:Hi David. I grabbed your theme the other day and wanted to drop by, say thank you and give you a chance to critique it for me. I love how you consolidated the archives, nice. TIA.
FYI: I still need to make my meta tags a little smaller and do a little more work on my nav buttons.
david said:Hey Billy. Thanks for stopping by. My main critique would be the choice of font – it doesn’t read well in general for lots of text, italicized stuff, and you have it way too small. I’m also finding your choice of colors a bit too ‘extreme’… but that’s me.

kopper said:I’d like to add an image to the sidebar at the top, similar to how a blogger profile image appears at the top of their sidebars, but I can’t get the image I’m working with to not totally screw up the rest of the sidebar when I put it up there. I just want the image to appear adjacent (left or right) to the Pages/About text (right above the dotted line before the Search area). Is there any quick and easy way to do this that I’m not thinking of?
Thanks,

You’ve got two choices:
orangeguru said:1. float an image to the right just before the wp_list_pages call. you might need some css trickery to get it to fit properly in the block.
2. make your own ‘about’ block, similar to blogger. that might be easier. a separate [li] block, right before wp_list_pages.
Thanks for sharing your work. Like the simplicity - also that you have choosen a strong body type for postings. Coolio!
david said:Thanks! The real kudos go to Doug Bowman for the original design… I’m just the messenger.
Jenny said:hmmm looks a lot like one of the blogger themes!
david said:if you read the post, I explained that.

matt said:Thank you David (and Doug) for this most excellent themse. I was using it on blogger and now that I’ve moved to Wordpress I was absolutely delighted to find the same theme!
One question though, about archives. Most other WP themes come with an archive.php template. I don’t think this one did. How hard is it to create one (so I can use the functionality of a dedicated archive.php template)?
Thanks again.
david said:Thanks matt. What functionality is there in a ‘dedicated archive template’ that isn’t in the main index? I’ve never created single.php, archive.php, for my own work as I find I quickly am duplicating chunks of code. But if you give me a real-world example that makes sense, I’m happy to look into it.
matt said:Maybe what I’m looking for is in the main index. Admittedly, I’m new to WP so I’m still learning, but how would I go about modifying the archives? Say, like creating a dedicated “Archives” page with custom archival listings? Is it simply a matter of creating a directory on my root and re-writing the paths, or is there something in the main index template that would do the same thing?
Sorry if I’m unclear, I understand I’m a noob when it comes to this stuff but be sure that I really appreciate your time in answering my questions.
david said:If you mean sidebar.php edits aren’t showing up, usually that’d be something caching the page. Could be the browser, could be WP-Cache if you are using it, could be built-in caching (like CG-FeedRead does), etc. That’s usually the case.

On all of my gallery embedded pages here http://www.amber438.com/blog/wp-gallery2.php
if you scroll doen to the bottom, you will see the footer of your template. It looks like it’s cut in half. Do you think you could help me fix it?
Thanks
I have 2 problems. 1) When I insert a picture into the sidebar.php, it doesn’t show up on the site. 2)I can not convert the post titles into non links so I can change the color. I tried what was written in the stylesheet, but it distorted the whole page. Can you please give me some advice on how to fix this? Thank you.
Suzanne said:I am such a newbie at this so i appologize. My site looks pretty good in firefox but a little squished in explorer. I think just making it a tad wider would do the trick. How do i do that?
Also can i justify the pics on the sidebar to the right? Don’t know how to do that either! Love your theme, thanks so much!
darbin said:Hey I really like the theme, i know very little about html/css i would like to be able to put in an imagine that is 722x480, but when i do this the pages, cats, search, login etc are all in the middle of the picture. is there any easy way to move to the right those things? many thanks in advance

Thanks!
I like this theme. Thank you for sharing it dude !
Rob-s said:Is it possible to make the sidebar widget aware? Im not too sure on how to do it.
Col said:I LOVE this theme! Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Rob, I had the same question about widget awareness. There are instructions here which I followed. By adding functions.php I was able to access the widgets in my admin section … great!
But, when I added this code …
… to sidebar.php, I got this error …
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end
Maybe David has a great idea about this … what can be done? Thank you so much!

Jerry said:Any comments much appreciated.
I love the theme but need to find where to change the font size of the titles of the Child pages under the Parent page in the PAGES section of the side bar. Also how to indent them like the categories.
For some reason when you add a new child page it shows up inline and in a larger/bolder font and makes it look like a main page not a child.
I have looked thru the sidebar.php and style.css and cant find the right switches.
Any help would be most welcome since the sidebar looks kinda silly with the child pages being emphasized.
Jerry said:Also forgot to add,
How do you make the Link category titles a larger font?
whenever I try to change any font settings in the style.css all it seems to do is change the Category section.
