[Help Me] DI-624 and PowerBook G4 problems
OK, here's the scenario. I have a DI-624 router. I also have a number of wireless clients - two computers using DLink DWL-G520 wireless NIC's, one using a DWL-G120 wireless USB NIC, my iPaq 3870, which uses an Orinoco Classic Gold card, and my laptop which uses the same card. I also have one computer with the Asus built-in WiFi card on the motherboard. That one occasionally has problems with my DLink router, but other than that, very few problems at all.
I also have a Linksys BEFW11S4 Rev 1 wireless router.
A friend of mine is trying to connect to my wireless network with his Apple PowerBook G4 with the built-in Airport wireless NIC. I can get it to connect to the Linksys router with no problems. It will NOT connect to the DLink router in any way, shape, or form.
I am using MAC filtering on both routers, so of course the first thing that I did is enter the MAC of the Airport card into both routers. When I enter the Airport config and choose the DLink router's SSID, all I get is an error There was an error joining the selected AirPort network.
Has anyone here had any success connecting their AirPort-capable Apple laptops to the DLink?? Any help would be appreciated. I really don't know much troubleshooting for MAC's.

Barrington, IL We were able to connect an airport (Not airport extreme) G4 to the DI624 using WEP encryption. No other filtering was used.

Mac's hate the short preamble setting that is enabled on the 624 by default. You may have to disable SuperG, but if you set the preamble to LONG and then turn the Airport card off for 10 seconds and then turn it back on and connect, it will work.
If you are running WPA which the Airport Extreme G does support, get the latest updates from Apple. When connecting be sure to select 'WPA personal' and enter your passphrase for WPA-PSK. You will still get the same error, but it will connect and work with WPA.

I use an iBook G4 with a DI-624 router with no trouble - but the thing that may trip you up (it got me until I figured it out) is that on the Mac you have to enter an ASCII password within quotation marks, like this: "password".
A hex password needs the dollar sign at the start, like this: $1a2b3c4d5e
Hope this helps.

RodneyC: I have preamble set to LONG because I have one B client that hates the short preamble (Asus built-in WiFi). I have disabled SuperG also because of existing B clients on the wireless side.
I will try turning the AirPort off for 10 secs then restart it to see if that helps.
emendelson: Thank you for the tips. I am not using any kind of encryption at this point. I will in the future once I get everything working, but I am not at this point.
As far as I know, this G4 doesn't have the AirPort Extreme (Is there any way to tell??).

OK. Don't laugh now. I fixed the problem myself. When I entered the MAC address of the AirPort card into my router (I use MAC filtering), I entered 03 instead of 30 in one of the blocks. Problem solved.
Thanks for the tips. Have a great day!
