Veep speculation continues
The latest on the Republican vice presidential front: Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana downplayed his chances, and Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota received a little more buzz.
On both CBS and on Fox News Channel this morning, Jindal said he doesn't expect John McCain to pick him and declared that he has the job he wants.
"I'm not going to be the vice presidential nominee or vice president," Jindal said on Fox. "I'm going to help Senator McCain get elected, as governor of Louisiana."
"Let me be clear: I have said in every private and public conversation, I've got the job that I want," he added.
Meanwhile, CNN reported this morning that McCain told a small group of New Hampshire Republicans on Tuesday that they are "really going to like" Pawlenty. CNN said its source took the mention as a big hint because it seemed to come out of the blue.
Pawlenty, on MSNBC Tuesday, refused to comment on any VP speculation.
The most buzz lately has been around former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, whom McCain lavishly praised again Tuesday during a town hall meeting in Rochester, N.H.
UPDATE: In an interview airing tonight on Fox News's "Hannity & Colmes," McCain shared little of his thinking on a running mate.
Asked what he was looking for, McCain said, “Someone who shares your priorities -- your principles, your values, and I've got to also say priorities…someone who can take your place immediately. That's maybe the advice almost even more important in my case.”

I think it would make sense to tap Robert Novak.
Novak is obviously a guy who know his way around government, though not around pedestrians. He seems immune to prosecution even in relation to national security leaks, and is looked on favorably by police.
He and McCain could have good old talks about the failure to perceive reality. They might enjoy shopping for nursing homes together, as well. I think it's a win-win for McCain and the Grand Old Party.
