About Me
Giles Bowkett began working with the Web when Java was about applets, PHP didn't exist, and Perl didn't even have SQL or HTTP libraries. Since then he's worked with Java, Python, PHP, ASP, Flash, and tons of Perl. He began working with Ruby on Rails in late 2005 and has worked exclusively with Ruby since mid-2006.

Giles wrote the initial client-facing app for Hulu, the groundbreaking (and revenue-generating) video site, one of the highest-traffic Rails sites on the Web. His blog gets around 50,000 pageviews per month. His writing's appeared in Wired, XLR8R, The Rubyist, and Advanced Rails Recipes, and he's released at least 10 Ruby open source projects, including Archaeopteryx, an AI which generates original drum rhythms. In 2008 he's speaking at 9 conferences and 3 user groups. He has no degree, but has received professional training in acting, film, realistic drawing, color theory, and pro audio production.
He wrote this third-person for a conference and would totally switch it back to first-person, except he's really tired.
