Connecticut just overturned the gay marriage ban. Economy is going south pretty fast. Neither candidate for President can step up to the plate and offer a real solution to the people. Credit is scarce and workers are being laid off.

This is one of those times that people will be forced to get on their knees and turn to the only one who can make sense of all of the mess.

What’s the message from above?: The family is holy and should not be redefined into something that it is not. Don’t place all of your hope in money because you can’t take it with you in the end. Don’t make a fallible politician into a messiah because there’s only one of those. Finally, be happy with what you do have instead of chasing after luxuries that, ultimately, do not satisfy your inner longings for spiritual peace anyway.

RichR, just a small correction to your statement above. Liberal,unelected judges in Connecticut overturned the gay marriage ban.

Connecticut too. God help us.

Of course that state had already had “civil unions” for homosexuals, which is nothing but “marriage” for homosexuals in all but name. All those judges really did was cut that charade and admit what they have been doing all along. This shows that “civil unions” is nothing but a brief rest stop on the way to the complete abolition of marriage.

There is one good thing about this ruling: it will remind a lot of people of how important it is not to let Barack Obama become president, and maybe remind them not to elect or reelect the pro-abortion/pro-sodomy politicians to Congress or their local legislatures.

Of course its important to remember that there has never been and never will be any homosexual marriage anywhere on earth, any more than I will start laying eggs tomorrow if I put on a chicken suit. But the way things have been trending, it now looks like ultimately the only hope to maintain marriage in U.S. law (short of the disasters of dissolving the union or armed rebellion) is by a constitutional amendment.

Keep exhorting us Father. Your encouragement helps.

At times I ignore the paper, TV, and radio. I can’t take all this bad news.

We have been created especially for these times. That God put us here at this moment is proof that we have the ability to cope, as well as a specific purpose.

Yes there is plenty to pray about. Victoria, one of the Australian states yesterday passed the most vile abortion laws that you could imagine.

It is not my state. I am in Sydney, New South Wales. It won’t be long before there is a push in other parts of Australia for this kind of law.

If your parish doesn’t have Perpetual Adoration, now is the time to help get it started.

Psalm 51 is so right, Lucia.

Lord, in this time of moral crisis, we do believe that You will not spurn a broken and contrite heart. Against You we have sinned and we must face up to this. Show us our sins and the evil we have done, that we may repent and seek Your forgiveness and do reparation for our offenses. O God, we thank You that You are just and merciful. We beg You to create in us clean hearts. Save us, Lord. Send Your Spirit to enliven our hearts, so that we will teach Your ways to others. May Your kingdom come.

Yes, pray without ceasing,and encourage others in person, off the blog.

I keep resolving to start praying all the psalms, just going in order, but I would also commend to our prayer in particular the penitential psalms (Ps. 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130 and 143, in the newer numbering), the gradual psalms (Ps. 120-134) and Psalm 68 (“Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered…” the Paschal antiphon in Eastern liturgies, too).

Pray indeed. Pray to the Church Suffering and the Church Triumphant. Enlist their prayers. BEG them that they might plead before the Almighty God! That is a massive army of souls and they are on our side. Don’t wait till tomorrow and don’t keep this humble suggestion to yourself. Shout it out to everyone you know and don’t stop until Nov 5th. And then some.

Heaven is our only hope now.

The holy souls will surely be happy to pray for us when we say to them what they’ve said to us: “Have pity on me. Have pity on me, at least you my friends!”

Mercy, Jesus, Mercy on this world and this nation whose Patroness is Thy Mother!

In relation to the previous posting. I said a few prayers for the Holy Souls in Purgatory last night and asked them to do a favour for me and they speedily came to my aid.
