The Marquez family would like to thank everyone who has helped them at this very difficult time.
Thank You
to the more than 250 people who showed their love in attending the calling hours to the more than 200 people that showed their love in attending the funeral service to those who have donated funds to our family to help cover the cost Sabastian’s funeral to those who shared their love with Sabastian during his battles with cancer to those who left their comments on this blog that encouraged the family and all who read them
The love of so many was evidenced by the amount of donations made to this family. As of today, all balances have been paid and the family has suffered no financial difficulties. This is a testamony to both how much Sabastian has touched the lives of others and to the people of God who see a need and step up to the plate to help.
Please check back to this site periodically to see updates about the family.

First let me say that the comments on this site have touched the hearts of all the family. Thank you for being kind enough to leave us your well wishes and thoughts.
The calling hours will be from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday January 16, 2009 The funeral/memorial service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday January 17, 2009

As a friend of the family I am asking that you consider helping the family with funeral costs. I have set up a PayPal account to accpet online (secure) donations. Honestly we need to raise $5,000.00 A.S.A.P so that the family won’t have this added expense.

At 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 13th Sabastian was welcomed into heaven. I would like to think of him as a young gallant warrior who battled many of his 17 years. If I were to look only at his battle I would miss the real Sabastain. You see it was during his battles that he took time to smile and greet strangers or step up to younger ones who were afraid and let them know it was going to be alright. Instead of worrying about his own life and health, his concern was for his family. In the midst of his battles he was never lacking in his gracious humor that always brought a lighter heart to the situation before us.
His confidence in his Savior often caught this old marine off guard. Instead of fear there was courage. When most would find reason to seek pity he was the one showing compassion. When asked, it was always “I’m okay with whatever is God’s will.” These words were always evidenced by the way he lived and loved others.
We mourn his passing, we will miss him dearly. Friends like Sabastian are the ones you only get to have a couple of in a lifetime. We praise our Lord and King for granting us the time we had to know Sabastian and pray for His mercy to flow freely upon all who mourn his passing.
We will update this site with information concerning memorial services and more.
The family wants to thank everyone for all their prayers and love.

This is Mr. Bennett writing to you again. I had the privilege of sitting with Sabastain’s family today and to talk about this remarkable young man’s life and how he has done so much for so many. I was encouraged by his mother, who tells of her Lord Jesus’ love for them and how it is what gets them through this crisis; By his sister who shared how her life has been changed forever because of how her brother has shown his love in the midst of this battle. How their family is so much stronger because of Sabastian’s big heart.
I was then able to visit with Sabastian, he is no longer in ICU as there is nothing they can do for him. He asked to be back in his room on the 7th floor of Arnold Palmer; a place he has spent many months and touched countless lives. It is where he will spend his final hours here on earth.
If I tried to paint you a vivid picture of this young warrior and his struggle it wouldn’t do justice to his character and love for his family and friends. I was honored to see the nurses care so gently for him. To see his mother hold his hand and tell him to not be afraid. His aunt and her pastor who came and anointed his head with oil and prayed for God’s will to be done. I will always remember the look of his father, sorrowful that is son is suffering, but proud of all Sabastain is. I am honored to call Sabastian my friend.
Please pray for his family as the final hours approach. Pray that in the midst of the coming dark cloud they might find comfort in knowing Sabastian will be in the loving arms of his Savior. A place where cancer is cured forever.

This is Mr. Bennett updating the blog for Sabastian. I just got off the phone with Jamie Underwood (Parker’s Mom) as she was on her way home from visiting Sabastian. She told me that Sabastian was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) yesterday because he is having difficulty breathing. This is a time that all those who know him, those who don’t but know Christ, to bend our hearts toward heaven and pray for this brave and honorable young man.

This is Mr. Bennett writing again. I just got off the telephone with Sabastian and things are not going well as far as his recovery. Here’s what’s taking place:
His first round of chemo didn’t work His white blood count is almost non existent He had developed a fungal infection in his left lung and it is spreading to his right lung. They can try to operate to remove the infection but because of his white blood count and the AML being “full blown” the surgery could result in death or if it was successful his time remaining would be very painful. Sabastian and his family have decided to forego any further treatments other than meds for the fungal infection. There is no expectation that the anti-fungal meds will work. He has decided to stay at Arnold Palmer rather than hospice.
I asked him if he was ready and he said he has had his talk with his mom and the Lord and he is ready for whatever happens. He is confident in his faith in Christ and knows he will be in heaven.
He is getting a lot of visitors and asks that you text him or call before you visit.
Most of all he asks for prayer. Pray for his healing and for his family.
His calmness and courage is a huge encouragement to me, and all those who know and love him.

This note is from Mr. Bennett, friend of Sabastian, and website manager of this blog. My wife Susan and I visited with Sabastian last night at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital. Sabastian tells us that about a week before Thanksgiving Day he developed a fever and when the test came back the news was that he has relapsed, meaning the cancer has returned. He is undergoing chemotherapy again and hopes that the next transplant has success.
We were glad to see him again, though we would rather it be under better circumstances. Please pray for Sabastian’s recovery and healing. He will turn 17 years of age on Dec. 17th. He is accepting visitors if you have time to drop by.

Well am extremely sorry that i tend to NEVER update, lol i just forget and have alot going on like the fact that im BACK IN SCHOOL!!! which is great, my health cant really get any better which is good and im finally feeling like a normal teenager again. And to be honest its very weird when i tell people “yea its true, i had cancer..twice” because they dont believe my friends who seem to brag about me 24/7 lol..idk wat it is, but i just never really “brag” about the fact that i beat it because their are so many like jordan, parker, luke, and christina who didnt. i make a year out of transplant next week and to this day i still wish that i could switch places with all of them. But dont get me wrong im not depressed or anything it just sux that i cant go and tell jordan how there are TONS of chicks always checking me out in skool lol, and its pretty funny how even though hes gone i still crack up every time i look at a poster in my room or watch the diaperman video.
Another thing is that jordan is a serious chick magnet. Since i ALWAYS have his reminder band on my wrist girls tend to ask, oh where’s that from, and when i tell them they just melt in my arms. and yes i still use my port and scars as an excuse for girls to touch me, lol and its still the funniest thing in the world. The stories of “how i got my scars” hav become so detailed ad compplex that even adults believe them, lol. From whether it being “i was shot” to “i was attacked by a shark” they always seem to leave people in awe and laughing. Which everyone knows i love to do. Especially to girls. ;P
Since i have been so cocky about making girls smile and laugh or being checked out i think i should say that I AM single,,lol so no one thinks im sum “player or pimp”.. like sarah or any of the other nurses lol ;P
So there we go, life for me is pretty much as good as it can get fo a survivng cancer patient. And I’m totally happy with it. =D
Thanks to everyone who reads and to everyone who keeps me in their prayers.
Sabastian Marquez.
