Who Is That Woman Posting on This Blog?

http://editor-mom.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 07/ who-is-that-woman-posting-on-this-blog…

Why yes, I am still alive, and no, I have not given up blogging. Thanks for asking. I've just been working a lot. And here's a sneak-peak at what I've been working on getting ready for prime time—the spouse's business web site: That's my favorite page of the site, the Projects page.

Coming soon (no, this time, I mean it) a couple of reviews: the new AP stylebook and my long-lost, recently found, very worn copy of the Solid Gold Copy Editor.

the end of something

http://theuglyearring.com/ 2008/ 06/ 16/ the-end-of-something/

“Copy editors are being bought out or forced out; they are dying and not being replaced.†If newspaper copy editors vanish from the earth, no one is going to notice.†a great New York Times piece on the death of a copy editor, my first real job out of college; which happened after they announced the death of the dark room.

Day-dreaming Wednesday

http://oozygote.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 06/ 04/ day-dreaming-wednesday/

I feel anesthetized.  Slept soundly enough last night just before the clock struck nine and yet i woke up with heavy eyelids and with tendrils of laziness hovering all over me. For sure, I would be late for work again. However, I didn’t rush. I padded downstairs, fed an Alicia’s Attic CD in the player, and stretched a bit before going to the bathroom.

An Author's Humanity

http://editor-mom.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ authors-humanity.html

Earlier today, I looked at the properties of a Word document—a book chapter—that I'm editing. In the Author line on the Summary tab, I expected to see the physician author's name, followed by his string of advanced degrees, as is usually the case with these kinds of files. Instead, it read simply: Dad.

Copy editors wanted.

http://becausenooneasked.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 14/ copy-editors-wanted/

Funny discovery. If one misspells “Israel†as “Isreal†while searching at globeandmail.com, one will find 28 articles. And I thought I was the only one who did that. Repeatedly. Thank goodness for the little red dotted line.

China Quake and My Authors

http://editor-mom.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ china-quake-and-my-authors.html

The massive 7.9-magnitude earthquake in southwest China that killed at least 10,000 has me worried. China is home to 6 of the many authors for whom I do ESL (English as a second language) editing of the manuscripts that they want to submit to U.S. medical journals for publication.

Work from Home as a Pop Culture Copy Editor

http://workathomemomrevolution.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 04/ work-from-home-as-pop-cul…

Here's one off craigslist that looks interesting. An editor is needed to copy edit newsletters and blogs for a successful website. You must be a clever individual with prior writing experience, and you must be able to turn work around fast. You will be editing 2 to 4 pieces of copy a day during the week, each about 250 to 500 words.
