J. Gresham Machen
In the "fundamentalist-modernist" controversy the Presbyterian champion of orthodoxy was Professor Machen of Princeton Theological Seminary. He withdrew from the seminary in protest of a merger of boards strengthening liberalism. With the retinue that followed him, they founded Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.
