Ugly scene at minor league game
FFG: Rangers minor league report (7/25)
This Day in Rangers Transaction History (7/25)
So much for Kevin Millwood's kickboxing
Mark Cuban still in Cubs sweepstakes
Bakersfield Blaze: First impressions
Don't expect martial arts to catch on as an off-season training craze for big league pitchers. It certainly doesn't seem to have worked for Kevin Millwood, who blogging sensation Jacques Taylor wants put on the DL until he can prove in a rehab start that his groin is OK.
Richard Durrett's story this winter about Millwood taking up kickboxing to get in shape was a great read. The results haven't been so swell for the beefy 33-year-old whom the Rangers signed to be an innings eater.
As Dickey D pointed out, Millwood has left five starts early because of injury this season. That's a kick in the gut to an overworked bullpen.

More like a kick in the groin...

Tae-Bo'er Billy Blanks is going to be disappointed when he hears of this.
Does Millwood even run poles in between starts or do the Ranger bat girls fan him while feeding him ball park 'chos?
Put him on the DL please.

TM - another master of the obvious with puny puns.
I still want to know if this team has any kind of quality in its strength and conditioning staff. In fairness to Millgroin, at least one of the five times he left a start early was because he got hit. Of course, that might be because he couldn't get out of the way because he is so slothful due to a lack of conditioning. OTOH, this team seems to have experienced a number of groin and/or hamstring issues that one would think could be helped by proper conditioning - both between and immediately before games.

Kevin Driftwood obviously can't resist our grub down in Texas. I mean, the guy doesnt have an athletic body to begin with. He has bird legs holding up that gut. Did anybody tell him that the dugout is not part of the All-You-Can-Eat seats? Maybe he should try NutriSystem so he can make money while draining our payroll at the same time...

On a serious note:
I was watching some highlights the other day of Nolan's 7th no hitter.
Nolan looked like Lee Haney out there. How old was he? 43 or so?
TEN YEARS OLDER THAN MILLWOOD.
I remember Nolan being on an exercise bike for like 2 hrs after each start or something like that.
My point is, why doesn't Nolan take Millwood under his wing or something? Whip his big country a$$ back into shape. We hear stories of Nolan taking certain kids down on the farm under his wing, why not the ace of the big club. Do big league egos get in the way?
Millwood could get another decent contract if he finishes out the existing one on a high note, the rate he's going now he may not even finish out this contract.

All Mark Connor's fault
He must have a terrible program for in between starts workouts.
Just ask Nolan ......... and he'll tell ya
FOOTBALLS ARE THE KEY !
NOT MARTIAL ARTS !

Nolan could invite Millwood and Dick Cheney to bird hunt together. May he rest in peace after that. The Rangers need his roster spot for a young arm with potential. There are many called but few avoid the DL. Mt Wimpy Burger Man.

Somebody send him Kirstie Alley's phone number.

Forget Andrus. Millwood is the real Elvis.

Why is Kiko Calero in the minors? That guy is a good pitcher. Can we get him up here to help this bullpen?

"My point is, why doesn't Nolan take Millwood under his wing or something?"
Anytime Millwood sees wings he eats them!

i hope he stays...a daily reminder of what happens when you overpay for under performance.
i have no doubt that millstone's heart is in it.
it's the rest of him that i worry about.

Ol' EEyore just needs an extended stay on the DL until he can stand up for 100 plus pitches ...instead of another rookie call-up, maybe stretch out Rupe in a starters role and call up Calero to replace him in the bullpen.

is it too much to ask the local media to get on this guy as they did on chan ho? this guy is worse by a mile! at least chan ho worked out and was in shape. millwood isn't interested in pitching, he wants to hunt & fish. what a joke!

millwood sucks. that is all. this guy is so far from being an "ace" it is laughable.

Funny thing is that none of you internet tough guys would actually have the stones to say any of this to Milly's face.

The obvious problem is that Texas has to pay $10M for a 3-4 pitcher and also call him an ace. Texas doesn't get aces, they get 3-4 pitchers to pitch here, put them in the 1 spot and then the fans complain when they pitch like a 3-4 pitcher. Tear down the ballpark and build 1 with a retractable roof if you want quality free agents to pitch here.
