Labor Day was instituted to commemorate America's hard working labor force and was scheduled at the end of summer. It was the last big weekend before returning to a five-day work week. Labor Day finished off the summer. Children went back to school, college students made last minute preparations to return to campus and senior citizens hopped in their RVs and headed to recently vacated spots in the mountains and at the beaches.
The Anderson Family Reunion was an annual Labor Day festivity at the senior Andersons' ranch. There was plenty of space, good food, laughter and special memories. Favorite activities were games, old family movies, camp fires, s'mores and grandfather's stories they listened to year after year.
Grandmother and Grandfather Anderson had an idea that had been growing in their minds all summer and they saved it for this special occasion. In typical Anderson style, it was presented as a suggestion for everyone to consider.
With family approval and with their tax advisor's recommendations, they would give their ranch to their favorite charitable organization. It would be an immediate and outright gift, alleviating the Andersons from further management of ranch operations.
They would set aside 15 acres that included their ranch house and some of its memorable buildings to a life estate agreement. They would deed the ranch house site to their children collectively and at the death of the survivor of those children, the ranch would become an additional gift to their favorite charity.
For this Labor Day, it was more than a memory that they created for their family. If you would like to create a memory for your loved ones, contact us. We have ideas that will benefit you during lifetime and help our mission in the future.
