Call for Good Music

Loreena McKennit is good stuff. She has quite a few cd’s out. I like The Visit and Book Of Secrets.

The Future Sound Of Gaeldom is good coding music too. Review here.

Robert Randolph and the Family Band is excellent, I would recommend their CD, Unclassified.

Brother is really good too, they’ve got bagpipes, didgeridoo, electric guitars, and drums, This Way Up is a good CD of theirs.

Topher: My celtic crave is currently satisfied by The Words That Remain by Solas.

Rebecca: Brother sounds very interesting… very diverse.

Garrett: I’ve been listening to Jackopierce for a couple of months now (my friend Roger of The Hours introduced me to them). Vineyard is one of my favorites of theirs.

Might not be new to you, but my current favourites are The Zutons’ Who Killed the Zutons, Paul Weller’s Studio 150, and Franz Ferdinand’s Franz Ferdinand.

Nickel Creek. They’re on iTunes, as well.

I don’t know if they are famous or not but I am a fan of Sway by The Perishers. Also, don’t shoot me but I listen to a lot of country. I know these guys are famous (if you know country) but their new song ‘Bless the Broken Road’ is amazing.

My current favourite track is “Let Go” by Frou Frou...

I first heard it when watching Garden State (written/directed by Scrubs’ own Zach Braff)... Such an amazing movie! The Garden State soundtrack rocks too!

I’m also listening to the new Daft Punk album.. While I wasn’t fond of it after the first time around, it’s slowly starting to grow on me… “Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, crash it, change it, melt, upgrade it… write it, code it, paste it, save it, load it, check it, quick re-write it…”

Oh, how I can relate! :)

I’ve been really into The Long Winters, The Decemberists, and Saturday Looks Good To Me.

I’d start with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. There are a handful of good songs available for download on the official site.

I always recommend anything by Elliott Smith as well. There is no official site that I know of, but there’s an excellent fan site at http://www.sweetadeline.net.

Keane should be banned.

Death Cab For Cutie is a fantastic band. Saw them live with The Long Winters.

Most of the albums I’ve been listening to non-stop for the past week or two have already been mentioned: Garden State soundtrack, The Zutons, Keane, Franz Ferdinand. The Scrubs soundtrack is also excellent. And for some reason I’ve also been on a Weezer kick lately…

iTunes new Music Tuesday normally helps me find quite a bit. I came accross Jack Johnson and Rufus Wainwright through them. Wainwright’s Poses album is fantastic, and I have yet to not be pleased with any of Johnson’s albums.

Patty Griffin because I feel like I can challege a person’s taste in music if they don’t like her. :-)

I’d have to say that the album Ghosts by Sleeping at Last is pretty incredible. It’s been getting a lot of play time here lately.

Others lately: Anberlin’s new album Never Take Friendship Personal for when i feel in the mood for something a little harder. Caedman’s call for when I want something refreshingly tried and true. Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna: amazingly beautiful classical. Death Cab for Cutie’s Transatlanticism. Solas’s The Edge of Silence, and Iona’s Open Sky for the celtic urges in me.

I have really been digging into the roots of rock ‘n’ roll lately. I highly recommend “The Best of Electric B.B. King.” It mixes his early blues guitar riffs with some of his late electric jazz style. As always, if you need something to sooth your music hunger, grab Led Zepplin’s “Early Days and Latter Days.”

Surprised no one has mentioned the new Bright Eyes albums, these are absolutely essential listening. Rilo Kiley toured with them and their album ‘More Adventurous’ is quite good too. Also one of the best recent albums (although it is over a year old now) is ‘Frengers’ by a Danish band called ‘Mew’. Not many people namecheck it but it really is a great album, I’m still listening to it now.
