The Wall Street Journal Mobile service is a portal that delivers content from three of Dow Jones consumer media services: The Wall Street Journal Online, MarketWatch.com, and Barrons.com to your wireless device. Read news while on-the-go, track the market, listen to streamed podcasts, watch videos and more all with one easy-to-use wireless service.

Wall Street Journal Mobile is a free service to our readers . Depending on your plan, there may be charges from your wireless carrier.

We are launching with a beta, or early version, of this software. We plan on expanding it to other popular mobile devices as soon as possible.
plus imageDo I need to download all three services - WSJ.com, Barron's and MarketWatch - if I want all their news and data?
No, just pick the one you want as your home application. The home application will have a menu to go to the other two online services. For example, if you download the application from WSJ.com, you will go to the WSJ main menu when you launch the application. You can than navigate to the MarketWatch or Barron's if desired.

The articles you see are identical and are the most recent articles as seen on the online websites. But the online websites have more articles available.
plus imageWhy do I get an error message and what do I do when it happens?
You may receive communication errors while using the service when your device has limited or no connectivity to the data network. To resolve this issue, change your location.
plus imageWhy am I getting the following error message: "Failed to connect to the server"?
Make sure the date and time are accurate on your device. (Date and time can usually be set under the Settings menu option.) If the date and time are incorrect the server will not allow a connection.
plus imageWhy are there numbers in my Wall Street Journal Mobile application on my Smartphone?
These numbers are called bubble numbers. They allow you to quickly make a menu selection with a single click on your keypad instead of scrolling down the menu list. Just select the number to the left of the menu item to make your choice.
plus imageHow do I keep my backlight on when reading an article?
On your device go to 'Settings', than select the backlight icon. Here you can set the length of time to leave the backlight on when your device is not in use. Remember that the longer the backlight stays on , the sooner you will need to charge your device's battery.
plus imageWhy aren't the videos playing?

If you are having issues with watching the videos you may be experiencing one of the following three issues:

i. Lack of bandwidth: Some devices do not support high bandwidth, in which case the low bandwidth option should be used. You can change the bandwidth option from "High" to "Low" on any screen that shows video content.

ii. Lack of memory on your device: Your mobile phone may not have sufficient available program memory. This condition is caused by having too many applications installed or open at the same time. To address this issue, you can close or uninstall programs to free up memory to play the video, and/or you can try playing a "Low" Bandwidth video (by following the steps detailed above).

iii. Use of a proxy server to connect to the internet: Please make sure that your device is not trying to use a proxy server to connect to the internet. This will also cause problems with the video portion of the service. To change this, go to: Settings\Connections\Manage Existing Connections (Proxy Settings (bottom tab)) or Go to: Setup My Proxy Server depending on the type of device. Make sure that the "This network connects to the internet" box is unchecked.

To return to the Wall Street Journal Mobile service after playing a media clip please tap or click the "x"/"ok" box in the top right of the screen. You can also use the "back" button. Both methods will return you to the main Wall Street Journal Mobile Application service.
plus imageWhy do I keep hearing audio after I go back to the Wall Street Journal Mobile service?
The audio keeps playing until you pause it. To main it pause automatically when you return to the main Wall Street Journal Mobile service, go to :Windows Media Player > Options > Playback and check the box that says "Pause playback while using another program." You may then navigate back to the Wall Street Journal Mobile service via the Start menu.
plus imageHow can I remove the Today Screen shortcut?

The Today Screen shortcut is there to make the application easier to find and use. If you would like to remove this shortcut please follow the steps below.

i. Smartphone (Standard): From the "Start Menu" please go to "Settings" and select the "Home Screen" Feature. In the "Home Screen Layout" drop down box you will see "AE" pre-pending one of the screens. Simply select a theme without "AE" at the front of the description.

ii. Pocket PC (Professional): From the "Start Menu" please go to "Settings" and select the "Today" Feature. In the "Today" feature please select the "Items" tab. This is a list of all the items you can add to the "Today" Screen. To remove "Wall Street Journal" from the Today Screen simply uncheck the box. Use the same process to remove "Barron's Online" or "MarketWatch".

If you have a Windows Mobile-powered device, go to Start > Settings > System tab > Remove Programs. Select the Dow Jones Brand that was installed (Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Barron's Online) from the network connects to the internet" box is unchecked.
