ISTANBUL -- Gunmen stormed a guard post outside the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul Wednesday, touching off a deadly firefight. Three assailants and three police officers were killed in what U.S. Ambassador Ross Wilson called a terrorist attack.
No one has claimed responsibility. U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said he could neither rule out nor support suspicions expressed by Turkish police that al Qaeda was behind the attack.
