Who is us?

Sean Daily is an English major from New Jersey now living in Las Vegas, the Other City of Lights. "I consider 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' to be comfort reading, I like the al pastor tacos at Tacos Mexico and I count among my literary influences the Chainsaw from 'Doom'. 'RRRRRR! You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

Shanoah Alkire is our Discordian at large. "Born in Santa Cruz, I grew up in Grass Valley and the Bay Area, and now lurk in Las Vegas. My literary influences include Ray Bradbury, Lewis Carroll, and Douglas Adams. I also program as a hobby, and currently maintain the Gtk port of Angband. You can find a rather old bio of me here."

My Freak Flag

Posted by shanoah on July 23, 2008

Well, I thought we could continue our freak parade here, so I’ll continue with more songs on the subject. First, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young:

Almost Cut My Hair - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

This is the classic “Almost Cut My Hair”. I’ve had to cut my hair the last year or so, so I can feel where they are coming from. (My current wait between haircuts is “Until someone at work complains”, incidentally. Bloody dress code…)

I feel like letting my freak flag fly
Cause I feel like I owe it to someone

Non-conformity, and not giving in to the man is what this is all about.

If 6 Was 9 - Jimi Hendrix

This song actually fits into the last rather nicely with these lyrics:

Oh, I don’t mind, I don’t mind
If all the hippies cut off all their hair
Oh, I don’t care, oh I don’t care…

And of course, right along with the last song, he also is waving his freak flag high.

For the last song, I thought I’d diverge a bit, and play something that is just freaky.

Freak - LFO

Chinese girls lock their teacher in a bathroom, and freak out in slow motion to music? This is quite bizarre. Very surreal and discordant. Reminds me of Sean’s last post, in fact…
