He was taller than I’d expected

Tonight I went waaaay outside my comfort zone and it ended up being a lot of fun!  Dave from Blogography travels a lot and likes to meet other bloggers/readers/cool people, so being in Atlanta, he invited folks to Davelanta II at the Hard Rock Cafe tonight.  I tried in vain to get a friend to come with me, promising that it wasn’t as sketchy as it sounded, but everyone had better things to do, like work or go to weddings.  Booo.

So I hopped on MARTA (that’s right, I took public transportation and was not going to a big event or the airport) and headed downtown to the HRC to meet a bunch of total strangers for dinner.  After wandering through the restaurant looking for the 3-D version of a guy whose picture I know pretty well, I found him and Beth of Copasetic Beth and her husband (sorry, I can’t remember the name of your blog!) up at the bar.  I was presented with my very own name badge and flare (flair?) and immediately felt my level of coolness skyrocket.  In short time, we were joined by Heather of Confessions of a Coal Miner’s Granddaughter and Mike and Diane of Americans in Singapore.  Lots of pictures were taken, iPhones were shown off, and I met another X-Phile and have some great new blogs to read!

I realized I’ve never been to a Hard Rock before and (other than the price) actually enjoyed the food and a 420.  It was insanely loud, but at least the music was good :)  Now that I’ve met and hung out with other bloggers, the pressure is on to maybe write in this thing a little more often and try to make it somewhat interesting.  I think part of my problem is that I think of things to write at the worst times (like in the middle of church or while I’m driving) and I’m never totally satisfied with the look of my site.  It’s definitely a work in progress.

The whole experience was a little surreal, since we had nothing but Dave connecting us all, but isn’t that what’s so cool about this whole blogging thing?

Here’s my super cool name badge thingy!  I wore it all the way home with pride.

So what’s the flair all about?  I put a lot of thought into this.  Starting from top left and going down and around:

Skull and Crossbones: because pirates are just cool and I secretly want to be one Lemon slice: umm, I love lemons? Lil’ Dave brushing his teeth: Now I’ll never forget to brush! Artificial Duck: Who doesn’t like a wind-up duck?  And this will remind me to go buy some awesome playing cards. Devil Bad Monkey: He’s the icon of our gathering tonight, how could I not add him? Swirly Purple: You’re getting verrrrrry sleepy . . .

Thanks so much for coming to hang out with us, it was great to meet you!

And I think the evening was all still very sketchy.. only because it makes me sound so much more mysterious and dangerous! :-)

Elizabeth - very cool to meet you. Enjoyed the company tonight. Must know - did you make it to the Dark Night at Imax????

It was great meeting you and here are the X-Files episodes I was telling you about:

Pilot Episode
Beyond the Sea
The Host
Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose
Memento Mori
The Post-Modern Prometheus
Bad Blood
Milagro

Enjoy and hope we can all meet up again soon!

I missed most of the X Files conversation, but heard one of you say there was a spin-off. Can someone do a post on that? I’d love to know more!

I’m very impressed that you hopped on MARTA all by your lonesome. I think the last time I went to Hard Rock was when I was 12 or 13. I keep forgetting we have one.
