my little sleeper

so the first 8-12 weeks of Grant's life I thought for SURE he was going to be an awful sleeper....but I was very wrong about that. At 4 1/2 months, this little guy not only sleeps an average of 10 hours a night, but he also takes great naps during the day now (most of the time). He'll take a 2-3 hour nap in the morning, another 1-2 hour one in the afternoon, and then lately he's been doing a 1-3 hour nap in the late afternoon! I can't figure him out!

So here's my question for my friends who have older babies.....at what age did your baby start being able to be awake for more than 1.5-2 hours at a time without getting cranky and need a nap?

he's been kissed!

I love this picture because it's proof that this little boy gets A LOT of kisses, from everybody! I took him with me last Friday when I met my friend for sushi, and afterwards we stopped in the church to visit with the ladies who work in the office. You can see from his forehead that someone with pink lip gloss was smoochin' on him :)

Congratulations, Odoms!

On May 29, our dear friends Joey and Cristin Odom (who live in Tulsa, OK) gave birth to a very handsome little boy named Harrison (who wasn't so little....9 pounds, 21.5 inches!) Congrats you guys! We can't wait to meet him in person!

cookout with the fam

It was a scorcher the day we decided to have a cookout in the Justin Baker clan's backyard, so we put Grant's little hat on (which is still a little too big for him) but he didn't like it. This is a picture of the eldest cousin, Lillie, holding a very warm little baby, who ended up naked by the end of the evening because it was so hot!

daddy's little Agent in Training :)

Jeremy brought this onesie home from the FBI academy many months before Grant was born....and now it fits! I took him to visit daddy at work wearing this and he got lots of attention!

5th year anniversary in Branson

outside the Chinese Acrobats show - highly recommended.
eating breakfast at the Chateau on the Lake, where we had breakfast the morning we got engaged (more than 6 years ago!)
testing out the wiggle scooters at the Branson Landing.
and a visit to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (also at the Branson Landing)...complete with a purchase of four caramel apples for our parents.

These are just a handful of the TONS of fun moments we had in Branson last week. Since my parents live just 30 minutes away in Springfield, we dropped off Grant with my mom and sister for four days and four nights while we partied with the old folks in Branson :) We had SO much fun and felt like kids again. After this week is when we flew to Columbus for my cousin Justin's graduation party. Grant did wondeful on his first plane ride!

4-months old on May 31

Grant Baker will be four months on Saturday! Here are the latest stats from Tuesday's four-month check-up:

weight: 13 pounds, 4 ounces (25%)
height: 23.5 inches (10%)
head: 40 cm. (10%)

He's still a little guy but we're at least past the 5th percentile which we had been stuck in for quite a while! He loves to squeal and say lots of funny "words," and we're realizing that he's quite the contemplative little boy. He furrows that brow of his like he's really thinking about something before doing it. Just like his daddy :) And it's lots of fun to make him laugh when we whistle at him or kiss his feet. The doctor has given us the go-ahead with rice cereal and/or baby food, but I think I'm going to wait a few more weeks. We spent the weekend in Columbus, OH (more on that to come in another post) and I watched my cousin Betsy with her little 8-month old....doing the baby food thing is definitely more work so hopefully we can go a few more weeks before starting all that!

mother's day 2008...(part 3)

If you previously read the Mother's Day 2008 (part 2) you noticed that I mentioned about an "announcement" that was made by my dad and mom on Saturday night. I've already had one commenter mention that she is anxious to hear this "big announcement. " I hope that nobody thought my mom was pregnant or anything crazy like that!

The announcement was that there has been a brand new church built in Peru called Pilpichaca Church. This church was completely funded by two families from Des Moines First Assembly. And here's the amazing part: it was built and dedicated in loving memory of Andrew Nicholas Baker. WOW. Our entire family was blown away by this amazing act of generosity and love, along with the knowledge that there will be Peruvian men, women and children who will be in heaven because they came to know Christ through Pilpichaca Church. And the church would not have been built if Andrew had not been born and died. I cannot WAIT to get to heaven and meet all these people, especially our sweet baby boy.

We'd like to thank the two families who funded this church, although I'm sure they would not want me putting their names on this post. God uses all things for good...somehow. Last mother's day all I knew was that I had lost a son. I was a mother with empty arms. But God has used that painful experience to bring Glory to Him.

p.s. I couldn't be more thankful that THIS mother's day, my arms were NOT empty.

Mother's Day 2008...(part 2)

I promised to have a follow-up post about Mother's Day weekend since it was so amazing....so here's a little sneak peak into the weekend schedule and a few more pictures:

Friday evening:

Josh (Jeremy's brother) and his wife Natalie (who are expecting a little boy in September!) flew into Memphis around 6:00 p.m. My dad also flew in from Minneapolis at this time so we picked them up at the airport, dropped Dad at the hotel so he could rest, and then met the rest of the Baker clan at the Grand Buffet in Germantown.

Later that night, Bethany, Mom and Gram Clay arrived at our house having driven from Springfield. Jonathan and Heather (Jonathan's girlfriend) arrived a little later...they had driven all the way from Florida in one day. We all enjoyed meeting Heather for the first time!

Saturday:

A baby shower for Natalie at 10:00 a.m. at Grandma Baker's house....ladies only :) We had delicious salads, fun games, and lots of adorable gifts for Natalie. The guys went golfing. We all met up for lunch and games at our house in the afternoon.

That evening, the Bakers AND Palmers had dinner at Justin & Monny's to celebrate Josh's and Lillie's birthdays. This is where my dad and mom had a very special announcement which will be another separate blog later...look for this post coming soon.

Sunday:

The big day! Mother's Day and Grant's dedication at church. My dad was able to dedicate him, and it was so special. The whole family was there and Grant was an angel. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about what an amazing little boy God has given us. I am so so blessed to be his mommy.
