Princess Libby of Orange & Prince Maxwell von Yard

Aubrey from Prosapia Vita blog tagged me with a simple meme.

The suggestion for this meme is to post the sixth picture from the sixth folder on my computer.

The photo was small, but it is a photo of our outside dog Max and cat Libby. You can hardly see it, but both are wearing crowns and Max has on a bowtie and a cigar in his mouth (courtesy of blingee.com).

I used to have a myspace account for my Shih Tzu Bibi. Her profile name was Queen Bibi. Long story short I wrote a mini story about her "life" as a queen and her royal family. I think our Yorkie was Princess Coco of Yorkshire. Libby got her name because we have about 20 acres of oranges and she is always sitting under one or hunting in them. Max got his name simply because he is an outside dog.

So as silly as it is, the picture was created for Bibi's myspace account, which no longer exists.

In the spirit of the meme I am supposed to tag 6 people.

I am a bit of a rule bender, so instead of tagging anyone I'll leave it up to my readers to decide if they want to do this meme or not.

Have fun - and let me know if you do this meme so I can check it out!

Catholic Family Treasures

I made a discovery in the large storage space under our stairs today. I finally braved the dust and cobwebs and pulled out a few boxes filled with old pictures, negatives, newspaper clippings and Catholic memorabilia belonging to my husband's grandmother, whom he never met. She was a very robust Italian woman who loved her Catholic faith.

If you have visited my other blog you might know that we live in a home that has been in my husband's family since it was built in 1920. Amazingly, there are still a few old things floating around and I am the super sleuth detective of antiquities to sniff them out.

Here is a few of the treasures I found:

Photobucket

Confirmation or First Communion??? (unknown relative or friend)

Photobucket

St. Elia (Patron Saint of Maschito, Italy - village where my husband's family came from)

Photobucket

Procession in Maschito, Italy (don't they look chipper?)

Photobucket

1930 Confirmation Remembrance Certificate

I'm not sure what I will do with these things but I'm leaning toward preserving them by framing and displaying somewhere in our house.
Hopefully, the robust Italian grandmother is looking down from heaven and smiling that someone appreciates the small memento's of her faith.

I Am A Classy Dame....and bored

Ain't she a beauty? And a quick-witted one at that. Atleast in the movies. Who is she? Myrna Loy.

According to the Classic Dames Test I am most like Myrna Loy.

You are class itself, the calm, confident "perfect woman."
Men turn and look at you admiringly as you walk down the street, and even your rivals have a grudging respect for you.
You always know the right thing to say, do and, of course, wear.
You can take charge of a situation when things get out of hand, and you're a great help to your partner even if they don't immediately see or know it. You are one classy dame.
Your screen partners include William Powell and Cary Grant, you little simmerpot, you.
Find out what kind of classic leading man you'd make by taking the
Classic Leading Man Test.

I found the test when I visited Jordana at her blog Curmudgeonry. She was most like Myrna Loy too.

You might remember Myrna Loy from these classic films:

The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, Cheaper By The Dozen and Shadow of the Thin Man... to name but a few.

Did you know that with the outbreak of World War II, Ms. Loy all but abandoned her acting career to focus on the war effort and worked closely with the Red Cross? She was so fiercely outspoken against Adolf Hitler that her name appeared on his blacklist. She helped run a Naval Auxiliary Canteen and toured frequently to raise funds.

On December 14, 1993, after battling breast cancer and undergoing two mastectomies, she died during surgery. She was cremated and the ashes interred at Forestvale Cemetery, in Helena, Montana.

Chaplet of Divine Naptime

I often listen to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy on the Sirius EWTN channel when I drive. It comes on at 1pm where I live. It's beautiful, peaceful and allows me to focus on other things that I often neglect during the day. I admit I don't always have time to pray.

It also puts my three year old daughter, the Boss Lady, to sleep. Can I say Hallelujah!?

The Boss Lady becomes so relaxed listening to it that she always falls asleep at least halfway through it. When I look in the rear view mirror to the backseat I'll see her head rest to the side of her carseast. Before long her eyes close. If we are headed home it is a major blessing. Not so much if we are going somewhere.

My daughter and I took a drive to our post office today and as we walked out I realized it was 1pm. I asked the Boss Lady if she was tired and she said she was. So I put on EWTN, the Chaplet started and we took a short drive out of town. I was about two miles out by the time she fell asleep so I turned around and came home.

The Chaplet might make her fall asleep but it also does other things for the Boss Lady. It teaches her prayer. And guess what? She is absorbing it like a little sponge.

My son didn't have the interest to memorize things like my daughter does at this age. She is eager to memorize rhymes, songs, stories and prayer. She takes pride in it. She is delighted by it. It's a cute thing to witness. If you have children you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. It's amazing just how much information their little brains can hold.

Sure, I might be taking advantage of listening to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the sole purpose of getting my child to nap, but that isn't my only motive. I want to expose her to prayer. I feel blessed that she finds comfort in it. I'm grateful I can spend time in prayer also.

Join The Community

I'm trying a new Catholic social network site called John654, a Catholic community of faith and family. It is a new site and from the looks of it I think it's going to be a good place to connect with other people of the Catholic faith.

You can upload Catholic videos and pictures, chat with other members, make friends, join groups, participate in forums, read blogs and listen to Catholic music. My favorite thing about the site is you can listen to Catholic Talk Radio live while online.

Even if you don't have the time to join another online community you can still check it out and see what they have to offer. You never know, you might just like what you see.
