Malte's Search Tools for Firefox

This page is about the extensions for the fabulous Browser Firefox I (Malte Kraus) wrote that have something to do with Firefox' search bar (also called "search box").

Add To Search Bar 1.7

Have you ever wanted to have a search engine available in the search bar of Firefox that is neither shipped by default nor to be found on Mycroft? With the Add to Search Bar extension you can add the search functionality of any page to the search box by navigating to the search engine, placing the mouse pointer on top of the search engine's search box and clicking "Add to Search Bar".

Initial Release

Organize Search Engines

Description

Install
Organize Search Engines 1.1.1

You also have too many search engines in the search bar? Never find the engine you're currently searching for? Then this extension is for you! You can put the engines in folders or separate them with a separator line.

Known Issues

This extensions is incompatible to Search Words. When I heard of that extension, I had already implemented it into Organize Search Engines. Differently from Search Words, keywords also work for engines using "post" requests when using Organize Search Engines. Some extensions that are somehow interacting with the search bar are probably incompatible. I tested compatibility with these extensions: If you find an incompatible Add-on, please send a mail to firefox(at)maltekraus(dot)de

Search on Engine Change

Install
Search on Engine Change 1.1

Description

When you select an engine in the search bar this engine will be searched for the text in the search bar. This saves you from pressing enter after selecting the search engine. Not very much for an extension, I know.

Instead of this extension you can also use this script for the extension userChrome.js.

Version 1.1

All of these extensions are released under a MPL/GPL/LGPL tri-license just like Firefox. This basically means they are available free of charge, you may look into the source code (XPIs and JARs are renamed zip archives, unpack them and you have the source) and that you may reuse the source code as long as you license your modifictions under one (or more) of these licenses.
