Information:

Although he began his ministry as an evangelist in Colorado and was ordained by the Assemblies of God in 1929, Melvin Hodges (1909-1988) is most recognized for his role in world missions. After his missionary appointment in 1935, he served on the mission field in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. For 5 years he also edited the Missionary Challenge, a promotional magazine for the AG Division of Foreign Missions. Influenced by missiologist Roland Allen, he produced a work in 1953 called The Indigenous Church, which was revised and expanded over time. From 1954-1973, he served as AG field director for Latin America and the West Indies. Then he became a professor of missions at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. He was a prolific writer, and many of his works deal with missions and the indigenous church principle.
