Quick Hits: SSH for the iPhone
Okay, seriously, what’s the hold up here?
Is no developer working on this? Or is Apple/AT&T blocking is from having it?
I understand why Apple would not allow an SSH server running on the iPhone, or why AT&T wouldn’t. Talk about a recipe for disaster. Can you even imagine the number of calls to Apple?
“Hi, um yeah… I installed that SSH server thingy, and didn’t change the default password. Yeah, um, now all my data is missing….”
Oh, you know it would happen.
But why not allow an outgoing SSH client? Maybe they do allow it, and no one has developed it yet. I don’t know, but right now there are somewhere around a bazillion (technical term) IT managers in the world who would switch to the iPhone in about 10 seconds if they could SSH to their servers from a movie theater and fix a problem or reboot a machine.
Seriously, a bazillion, that many.
Lets go Devs. Either develop it if no one is, or make enough noise to convince Apple to allow it if they aren’t now. We need this.
Oh, and bless the children and stuff. There’s that’s my “politcal message” for the week.
