Funny Fungi

22 09 2008

The woods proved to be a great source for mushrooms and other fungi.  This was one of my favorite of today’s images.  It totally reminds me of coral under the ocean floor…only not.  :-)

Leave It Be

14 09 2008

It’s coming…autumn is right around the corner.  The leaves are starting to fall and the landscape is beginning to change and little pockets of color are floating in the trees.  The weather is crisp and the summer is fading fast.  It will be my first autumn with a DSLR and I  - I simply cannot wait.

(Don’t) Bug Me

19 08 2008

If you had told me at the tender age of 12 that one day I would have a camera with a macro lens that would make me love taking photos of bugs I would have laughed my head off and said something really profound like “Eww…gross!”

Blue Morpho Butterfly

17 08 2008

Just ONCE I wish I could get these huge beautiful butterflies to let their wings down so I could take a photo but nooooooooooo.  The inside of their wings is the most beautiful irridescent blue you could ever imagine - it really is breathtaking to see them fly.  Each year at the Butterfly Festival  I give it another try but, again this year, they eluded me.  Oh well, there’s always next year…

The Change

Sometimes I can’t help but wonder which stage of life I’m in.  Am I still a caterpillar or have I progressed to a butterfly and simply haven’t noticed yet?

Silver and Gold

11 08 2008

I bought a couple of gerbera daisy plants at the beginning of spring.  The first round of flowers brought many a new image to my photography collection but then the squirrels started to pilfer the blooms before I got a chance to photograph them, let alone see them.

So, when I noticed on Sunday that one of the plants had a near blossom on it, I pulled it into the kitchen window so it would have a chance to do its thing.  I made a couple of images tonight and then processed one “au natural” in its original golden yellow hue.  After that, I took it down to the black & white bones and added a silver gelatin filter on top.  Here they are: Gerbera in silver and gold.
