KC’s Skyline

5 10 2008

Here’s another of the images from last night’s session at The Bloch building.  This is part of the skyline of Kansas City reflected in the glass front of the Bloch building.  Can’t you just tell from the colors that are reflected that it was one superb sunset last night?  Wow!

Well now…it’s not every day you see an aquatic plant like a lotus growning in the middle of a field of wildflowers!  There’s a new pond right outside of a butterfly garden at Powell Gardens and this beauty was in full bloom - putting it right in front of a gorgeous backdrop of beautiful flowers.

The Garden

1 06 2008

I can’t be in a garden very long before I start to wonder…is this what the Garden of Eden once looked like?  Was it well manicured with flowers perfectly knit between the rows of grass and tucked delicately between the spaces of rockwalls?  Or was it, perhaps, more like a forest - tangles of green where ever you turned?

I bounce back and forth between these two ideals.

Today I’m bouncing towards the perfectly manicured garden and this is what Eden would look like to me…

Garden of Eden?

It’s Over When I Say It’s Over

Two nights ago this was the last image I snapped as I walked from a nearby lake to my car.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again:

NEVER TURN YOUR CAMERA OFF

UNTIL YOU’RE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION.

Two Generation Image

My parents were in town for the holidays and my father showed up on Wednesday night without his cameras in tow.  He was disappointed that the trees looked so beautiful with the snow all around them and there he was without his Nikons.  I handed him my Canon S3, gave him a 5-minute lesson, and away he went.

So, here you go…original image by my dad and post-processing by me.  Hey, maybe we’re on to something here?

Shadow Dancin’

10 11 2007

After two nights of walking along the river’s edge to catch the autumn sunset I realized there might be something to see from the other side of things. So, Friday, I hit the north end of the park and shot the sunset through the small grove of trees. What I got was a collection of some of the best silhouette shots of my life.

Looking at the same scene in a totally different way…it’s a good thing.

I almost missed it again tonight. Caught on the wrong side of the tracks as a coal train pulled through town, I came within minutes of missing another beautiful autumn sunset.

Finally, the train pulled out and I made it down to watch a stunning display as the sun slipped quietly down into the waters of the Missouri River.
