Another upgrade post
guff is now running WordPress 2.5.1. Woo. Hoo.
One problem this time around: the upgrade script rewrites a blog’s .htaccess file. It’s a necessary part of WordPress having pretty permalinks like:
http://guff.szub.net/2007/11/13/damn-it/
instead of the more cryptic:
though honestly, the latter’s a little faster to type up, being shorter and all. Anyway, due to certain problems last time around (though I really should get to detailing them, eh?), I didn’t know this occurs. And well, sometimes automated rewriting of important files can get munged. Especially when you have a lot of fancy custom hacks hiding in them… Ah, all is now well, and the blog is back up.
More later. Honest this time.

Hi Kaf,
I use your Boxy but Gold theme, guess it’s 1.0. Anyhow I’m several versions behind on WordPress upgrade and this will be my first time. Is your theme compatible with 2.5.1?
I’m thinking of using WP Auto Upgrade plugin. As for permalinks, I’m on a Windows server so the whole .htaccess was moot for me. I found a workaround which I now don’t remember, but it works. Do you think the new install will break my permalinks?
