Trying New Things

I'm pretty sure The Cuteness has had cake, but I can't remember a time when he had a cupcake.

I had a heck of a time getting him to turn his blue peepers toward the camera. The other gremlins were watching Cats and Dogs for the 5th time this week and the mix of chocolately goodness and the wonder of dogs with moving lips was too much for the poor guy.

After about 25 shots of him gazing dumbly toward the television, he finally gave me a few saucy looks. I think this one says it all. "Cupcakes: They might just save the economy."

I also tried some new things with my photos yesterday. I've been going for short walks periodically looking for signs of fall to photograph. I found some jewels. And I wanted to see what they'd look like on a black frame.

Don't be alarmed at that little watermark down there. I'm not trying to be a professional or anything. Eventually, I'll need a name and I was just trying it out.

Can I just add that there is no other time of the year that the sky is that color of blue? Well, there isn't.

October: How I Love Thee

eleven

We celebrated Socrates' birthday the other day. If you can count, you'll see that he is now eleven. Woo Hoo. I say that dripping with sarcasm, because he is turning from a child-like gremlin to a pre-teen one. Heaven help me.

He's not the only one with a birthday this month. Charlie and I also celebrate our birthdays, actually within one week of each other. No matter how old I get, I love my birthday. And it's not about the gifts (although I do love them as well...especially striped socks).

I just love that I was born. I'm sure that sounds a bit conceited, but my mother was so young and was encouraged to abort me. Not overtly so, but enough that I'm thankful to be here.

On a side note, you all have to know how much fun I've had making those video blogs. For some reason, I feel the strange need to apologize for bombarding this blog with them, but I do like to shake things up a bit from time to time. I've already got several more working themselves out in my head. So be prepared or despaired; whichever applies to you.

A Conversation With My Sister

I think you guys' encouragement on the video blogging thing has created a monster. But really, it's opened up some areas of my life that just don't translate in the written word.

It's odd that I'm now slightly addicted to something that I previously cringed at the mere thought of. But it's just so much darned fun.

Here is what happens when my sister and I get together. It's all her fault really.

Letters From Your Friendly Cashier: Video Blog Edition

Apparently some people liked my video blog. And that just makes me feel all googly inside.

And some people thought making a few more would be fabulous. I aim to please.

Please remember....I am not a professional.

Stuff I Noticed The Other Day

#1 There is not nearly the amount of whining during hair cut time as there used to be. Thank the Lord above.

miseryhair

This may look like a whiny face, but it was minimal considering the catastrophic crying that usually goes on.

#2 I really need to get it through my thick head that The Cuteness is tall enough to reach the counter.

#3 Zoe's has allowed her passive aggressive tendencies to seep into her craft making.
sick of her brothers

passive agressive crafts

I hope she learned that by making a sign like this, it only encouraged her brothers to disrespect it.

"science experiment"

#4 The gremlins are more interested in learning than I give them credit for. Here we have Socrates trying to determine if he can use this hollow plastic shelf leg as a straw. I'm so proud.

#5 Grandma Diana apparently thinks I need another journal. I almost stuck this in the unused journal drawer with the rest of them.

Then I glanced at the back.

And apparently she's concerned about my self control issues. Hmmm.

Dust

We're having a little shin-dig for Socrates on Sunday for his eleventh birthday, so I thought I should probably dust or something.

dusting the living room

Some of you have made the comment that it seems like I just do everything. I'm soooo talented and all that. I tried to tell you peeps that you are believing a lie. I don't do everything well. Housework is one of them.

snowing dust

There was a time in my life when there was no internet or computer or piano and hardly any gremlins. Back then I was obsessed with a clean house. My floors shone like the shimmery sunlight on an autumn afternoon. And I probably kept up with the dust on a weekly basis.

who needs toys when you have dust

Nowadays I have a couple of odds against me as far as housework goes. Too many gremlins. No motivation to clean because it's futile. I hate futility. Too many fun things I like spending my time on. And there was that tiny little problem that I had the filter in the wrong way for several months. My walls were covered with dust. But I'm pretty good at pretending unpleasant things aren't real, so I ignored them until the other afternoon.

I guess it was time to clean

I didn't want my party guests to asphyxiate on dust particles and have to stop the fun and frivolity to take them to the ER. I plan on eating some cake and I don't really want to be interrupted.

woo hoo!

And just so you know, The Cuteness is not allergic to dust. He played in it for at least 20 minutes and could still breathe. I don't think I've seen him this entertained for days.

You know what else is dusty?

cute shoes and a country road

A country road. Luckily my cute, cute shoes are safe in the ghetto-mobile.

***********************************************************************************
thanks to everyone who commented on my weird video. And thanks to a few people who opened their big mouths declaring it to be a good idea to do another one, I've already got it in the works to post in a couple days. What can I say? I'm a people pleaser.
