Windows Live Writer

I’m typing this post with Windows Live Writer Beta. Which is available for download today.

Live Writer lets you write blog posts in a WYSIWYG editor on your computer.  I don’t usually go for that kind of thing.  I’d much rather write my own HTML thank you very much…

But of course I had to try it.  I am an early adopter at heart.  If I were to get a tattoo, it would have to say Beta on it… OK maybe not. 

Never-the-less.  Here I am using Windows Live Writer… And here’s a screen shot:

Notice the continuous screen shots inside the image… act amused.

The cool thing about this: There are several viewing options.  The one pictured above is the Web Layout View. I can see exactly what the post will look like in my blog theme.  Now I don’t have to wonder or double check to see if an image is too big.  [Not that I have a problem with that very often... but you get the idea.]

Hmm… Does this baby have a spell check?

Why yes it does.

But what about HTML… I better be able to edit my own… Oh look, there’s an HTML Code view.

Hey… the code isn’t terribly bloated! Shocking.

The Verdict:  I think I like it.  I might install this on my laptop so I can write posts off line while traveling.  I still need to see how it goes about saving images etc.

Try it out.  Especially if you’re scared of HTML… [You know who you are.]

Update: Check out the simple watermark feature. [bottom left of the screen shot]

And you can set your images to upload via FTP to whichever directory you want… Sweet.  I hate it when they make me save them in weird places.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out. LIke you, I prefer managing my own HTML code. However, when I blog, I want to be fleet and nimble. Like a word-spewing gazelle, only without the grassy-smelling breath and funny tail. That really requires not thinking about code and working on pure prose.

Anyway, I’m a sucker for tools, too. You should see my Firefox toolbars!

That doesn’t sound like a bad idea. You should post a screen shot of your Firefox toolbars along with links to extentions.

No screenshot, but I just posted my extensions links to my blog, which you can enjoy at your leisure. Just don’t blame me when your FireFox dies in a flameing fireball of webbed fury.
