Okay we’re going out for the long one on this.
New information is in according to Religion News Blog which says that so-called prosperity teaching and word of faith heresy have lured many a people into the current American financial disaster. Many have warned, but greed is a powerful, common lure on both sides of this disaster. Look here, here and here.
While researching a book on black televangelism, says Jonathan Walton, a religion professor at the University of California at Riverside, he realized that Prosperity’s central promise — that God will “make a way†for poor people to enjoy the better things in life — had developed an additional, dangerous expression during the subprime-lending boom. Walton says that this encouraged congregants who got dicey mortgages to believe “God caused the bank to ignore my credit score and blessed me with my first house.†The results, he says, “were disastrous, because they pretty much turned parishioners into prey for greedy brokers.â€
These pied pipers lied, manipulated,  tricked and bamboolzed idol-eyed church folk into believing that “sowing a seed” (money only mind you) would release the blessings of God. Of course that meant that even though your credit was jacked up, you didnt have sustainable income, you didnt qualify for a loan, Gawd would still work a miracle for you. But you had to sow a seed of faith first. Money only, please.
SIDEBAR: God really does work miracles in all areas of life, so don’t think that’s not true. But God is not a Las Vegas slot machine and not the Georgia lottery. You can’t play him for the fool with your money. Now, back to the story.
These two-bit prophets of spiritual porn are out to rape the church with promises of being rich and “having God’s best”. The scriptures warn of of this, but people today ignore God’s word and live by their fragile emotions instead.
If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:3-10 (our bold)
Most of the people caught up in this mess are now losing those houses and perhaps their sanity, but do you think the pimps are coming to their rescue? Not on your life. Once they get you to sow your bill money or write a check on faith, they are finished with you. They treat people the sheep like washed out prostitutes who just need one last john to give them a fix.
Speaking of fixes the people are not innocent. Greed and desparation to look blessed drove them right into the arms of the pimp. Most are black and of the pentecostal/nondenominational persuasion. In the last several years we have seen an explosion of pimp-run ”economic empowerment (1)” conferences (2) for black church folk. And they were well attended. We saw accelerated deployment into the church an “endtime” notion that God was about to transfer wealth. And people believe it! All it takes is for you to ”sow your seed”, prop up your feet and wait. What does that tell you? Black folk need to turn back to God, repent and get rid of the idols they have set up to lead them. The idols —made with their own hands or money depending on how you catch it— promise the best, but refuse to sustain their fake miracles. Its a ruse right out of satan’s playbook.
And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Luke 4:5-8
Did you notice Jesus’ response? We should worship and serve God alone. Giving money to the pimps because you think you’re going to manipulate or fasttrack God’s plan of blessing is blasphemous idolatry! Instead of waiting for your blessing check to come in, Jesus said we should be SERVING God. That’s called work.
This brings up another issue which is the economic-driven ”help the poor at any cost” principle of the Democrats (is this why most black folk are Democrats?) birthed under Jimmy Carter. This has never helped poor blacks, only crippled them emotionally and financially as they were kept bolted to the front screen door waiting for the handout to show up in the mail. It was Carter’s Community Reinvestment Act passed in 1977 which ”encouraged depository institutions to help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they operate”. That’s nice talk for predatory lending. The CRA eventually spawned thinking that the government OWED black folk economic empowerment and this was a means to get it. Now, government is having to dump 700 billion dollars into a bottomless pit to fix it. But we’re in too deep now for 700 billion dollars to help. The main reason? We have set up a golden idol in our nation and its name is mammon. Now, the true God is allowing America (and you greedy church folk, too) to see what mammon will do when you bow down to it.
If the church leads out by repenting and dethroning the pimps, God will give us true pastors. “Return, faithless people,” declares the LORD, “for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion. Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding ( Jeremiah 3:14-15).
