Eh whatever. It's really not that big a deal, y'all. I wish it would come up here to Dallas/Fort Worth. We could so use the rain and cooler temps right now.

The one time I tried to actually watch the movie, my roommate and I screamed out loud and almost destroyed the DVD player in a mad attempt to silence the horror that is Walter Matthau trying to sing the title song.

To this day, I have no idea if he managed to trick Barbra Streisand into coming close enough that he could knock the ever-loving shiat out of her.

I am sweating bullets right now because that storm is about 330 miles south of me, and turning in my direction.

The last three hurricanes I faced, I had plenty of food and water but I was caught short on beer, because all the stores were closed and I only carry a one-day supply typically--------------

Uh, 'scuse me, I just remembered something I gotta go do. . . . .

Better stock up but I doubt your employer will let you off of work for a "hurricane didn't hit me" party.

A man with the right priorities. Though might I suggest whiskey and coke instead? If you should lose power, you can drink those warm (or even make due with warm+ice) and both can be re-cooled without tasting even worse than normal.

I always carry plenty of ice and I make my own electricity. If power goes out, I am the only one on the block with lights and TV, all the suckers have to sit in the dark.

Don't always have Innertubes 'cause I wardrive, I have a mind to go tell those people to do better, but they might get sore at me.

True thing, up to a point anyway -- they almost always go into freak-out over-hype mode. But a Category 1 storm can strengthen into something worse pretty quickly over Gulf waters in the summertime. And there seems to be some concern about this one bringing an awful lot of rain.

Plus, its course can change pretty drastically just overnight. I moved from Corpus up to Houston at the end of May '70; 2 months later, Hurricane Celia appeared to be headed our way, but overnight it swung due west and blew right across Corpus Christi Bay and did an enormous amount of damage throughout the area.

The biggest problem with the ever present media fearmongering is the "boy who cried wolf" syndrome it can instill in people -- after so many false alarms, folks tend to let down their guard and then that turns out to be the one time the predictions come true. There's a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" aspect to that.

True, but there are a lot of trailer houses in that area. Things could get tricky.

Actually, after I posted that, I remembered you as the guy who lives in a small house and does a ton of green energy generation. Wouldn't mind trying that, but I'm lazy (and couldn't afford property without a house on it here anyway).
