I think the real mystery is how you know all of this. Has the slowness of the decomposition of cartilage brought you a lot of problems in your life? Darn ears makin your life as a serial killer rough?

Anyway, what does him being depressed have anything to do with the entire batch of feet turning up? I can see if it was just his feet. As in, he was so depressed he cut off his feet for whatever reason. Wait, I take that back. I can't see why depression would make you hack off your own feet. I can see slitting your wrist but the feet? It seems like a lot of work for the purpose of ending your life.

This little factoid doesn't strike me as being a clue unless he was getting treatment from someone or somewhere which could lead us to some place else. But the article doesn't mention this.

A deer died in my backyard last winter and instead of cleaning it up I just let it go to see what happened. It was a lesson in decomposition.

I'm still wondering what forced the severing of the foot in the first place, since the separation would involve not only skin but also tendons. Even underwater there would have to be some external force to create the separation.
