Most of America doesn’t like what Sarah Palin represents. She’s so extreme on abortion she’d favor mandatory birth even if her own daughter were raped. That simply isn’t in line with the American public.
The Republicans know this, and they’ve begun an urgent whisper campaign to paint Obama as a baby-killer to try and push Obama’s [...]

How close is Governor Palin to the red button? A heartbeat away. A John “Older than Penicillin” McCain.
So when she makes a really stupid and bellicose statement towards Russia, we ought to take notice.
My friend Brad sent that to me, and Matt Damon raises a damn good point. Sarah Palin is not a reason-based governor. [...]

If we were to sum up McCain’s politics since 2000 a single word would suffice: hypocrasy. The same can be said of Governor Sarah Palin. She was picked primarily to shore up support in the conservative Christian community. Because of this, I don’t think either of her scandals around pregnancy will really hit home (or [...]

The Police, in riot gear and carrying semi automatic weapons, raided houses on a purely political basis. This was done at the behest of the federal government.
They blamed “anarchists”. No, seriously. These raids were carried out for thought crime.
Ian Welsh is right in observing that the bleeding silence from the media and political class is [...]

My friend Masroor suggested it over lunch. Its a funny thought. But the answer is no, Cindy McCain isn’t crippled.
Still this AP article has the unfortunate title McCain taps Alaska governor for VP.

How desperate do you have to be when you edit your user’s comments to fraudulently make it appear they support your position? Riverdaughter has sunk to a depressing low.

Riverdaughter sums up the dysfunctional logic of the thwarted PUMA crowd perfectly (emphasis mine):
There will be no love train. I’m not onboard. I will never be onboard.
You didn’t listen to us during the primaries.
You didn’t listen to us during the convention.
You are going to hear from us in November.
Barack Obama will NEVER get my vote. [...]

Behind the battles over party unity, Republicans are keeping their eyes firmly on the Supreme Court. Stinerman over at Swords Crossed has a post that should be required reading for anyone who supports a woman’s right to choose, separation of church and state, and workers rights:
A common argument for McCain that has been used to [...]

Dear Ron:
In your letter, you said:
I’ve supported the Democrats for 40 years because the Dem party was also the democratic party. This year, those two things have diverged.
No, they haven’t. One candidate won the primary with the most votes and the most delegates. PUMA is standing against democracy in democracy’s name. Why should the majority [...]

Richard Dawkins reading his hate mail:
Check out The Daily Show’s RNC Convention Billboard.
This looks fascinating (race as a theological problem).
One rich Republican is behind most of the negative campaigning in 2004 (”Swift Boat Veterans for Truth”) and to come in 2008.
Nancy Pelosi waxes wicked awesome.
Drop in and have a read: Nezua is both auctioning a [...]

Hillary Clinton is releasing her pledged delegates, and asking them to vote for Obama.
As the convention approaches, PUMA’s distance from Hillary Clinton will become even sharper. That will leave the PUMA crowd with a choice between a candidate with experience fighting everything Hillary Clinton stood for, or a candidate with less experience (but hardly none) [...]

I know PUMA says they have 16 gazillion supporters, but really, if they number more than a couple thousand I’d be impressed. That hasn’t stopped McCain from attempting to divide and conquer:
John McCain’s campaign suggested Sunday that rival Barack Obama snubbed Hillary Rodham Clinton as his running mate because of her criticism during the battle [...]

I was feeling pretty luke warm about Obama’s choice of VP. Until I read August (and saw this):
I think Feministing has it right on the downside of many of his positions. Pamela has a more in-depth (and ultimately encouraging) look at more of his positions.
But I’m going to quote (and go with) a massive chunk [...]

Bruce pointed me to this in the comments, and hot damn is this awful. Essentially, PUMA (via the Confluence) setup what was supposed to be a giant conference of 250 people. They got 60. As Bruce acidly and accurately observes:
The overwhelming and unstoppable PUMA coalition that Bowers and other selected-not-elected leaders have repeatedly claimed numbers [...]

According to riverdaughter, the effort to override the voters (Obama won both delegates and the popular vote) and install Hillary Clinton as Presidential candidate is now a movement (emphasis mine):
There are MILLIONS of us. This is no exaggeration.
The first day that Darragh Murphy opened her doors on PUMAPac, she got 35,000 hits. That’s ONLINE hits. [...]
