Biden rips Bush

Posted: Thursday, May 15, 2008 5:17 PM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under: White House, 2008, Biden, Obama

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee absolutely tore into President George W. Bush for his comments from Israel, which appeared to take a swipe at Obama.

Bush said this morning, “Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement."

An exasperated Biden skewered Bush over that in a conference call with reporters, calling the comments “pure politics,†“blatant,†“beneath the presidency,†“truly disgraceful,†“outrageous,†“disturbing,†“ridiculous hypocrisy†and “long-distance Swiftboating.†He even said Bush “oughta get a life.â€

“For this president to go on the attack against Barack Obama,†Biden said. “It cannot go unanswered.†[Possible veep audition?]

Coupling Bush’s comments with McCain’s assertion that it’s clear who Hamas wants to be president, Biden said he sees “an ugly pattern emerging.â€

He said the president should “get in touch with his administration.â€

“I assume he’s going to fire his Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense,†Biden said. “They want engagement of Iran.â€

He went on. “This is the kind of political rhetoric which continues to masquerade as policy,†Biden said. “All they have is masquerades.â€

And… “This is why we’re in the situation we’re in,†he said, as he criticized Bush for “demonizing†Democrats.

Bush “should try to figure out how to dig us out of the God awful hole this president has gotten us into.†He added that when he travels abroad, “I don’t criticize the president†--no matter how much they might disagree on various facets of foreign policy. In fact, he said he has defended the president when abroad.

Biden also sharply criticized Bush’s -- and John McCain’s, for that matter -- Mideast policy, or in McCain’s case lack thereof, Biden said. He called Bush’s policy an “abject failure,†“truly delusional†and “backwards.â€

“The president’s saber rattling has been the most self-defeating policy imaginable … spurs instability in the Middle East … increase in price of oil … plays into the hands of those Iranian leaders he rails against.

“Since when, since when has talking removed no from the American vocabulary.

More: “This is the same president, who talks about appeasement, the same one who asks me to get on a plane and talk to Qaddafi,†Biden said. “The same president who made a deal with Qaddafi. He writes letters, ‘Dear Mr. Chairman’ to Kim Jong Il.

“He oughta get a life here … Under George W. Bush’s watch, Iran, not freedom has been on the march … They’re a lot closer to the bomb… He calls Maliki our guy … Whose policy produced that? Whose watch was that? … Iran’s proxy Hezbollah is on the ascendancy. Don’t take my word for it, look at NIE … Afghanistan, Pakistan, Al Qaeda is stronger now.

“We should take zero backseat to this pres, talking about appeasement. … Under him, Israel is less safe.â€

Biden also admitted to initially calling Bush’s comments “bull----.â€

“I reacted viscerally,†he said. “But the essence of what I said was accurate. I should have said malarkey.â€

Holy crap!
Just watched Hardball !
Ha Ha ... Chris did an excellent job .. calling out the dude who was ranting rubbish !

Good Job Chris !!

Republicans are scared sh*tless  of Obama
I predict a massive landslide.
"NeoNazi" Bush certainly knows how to identify Facists, he sees one every time he looks into the mirror, or at his pal "NeoNazi" Cheney.  We need look no further than to the voters who were fooled by his warlike rhetoric to find the true Nazi appeasers.

The sooner we get rid of the NeoNazi crowd that's infested the Whote House the sooner we can get our democracy back on a democratic track.

Go Obama 08/12!
Joe Biden is the man. WHOMEVER the dem nom is, please include this person in your cabinet.
No, Joe, you were right the first time.  It's about time we started calling a lie a lie, a coward a coward, a fool a fool.  It is b******t, plain and simple.
This President is a disaster. How could he disparage another American on foreign soil? My God, Bush Sr., Clinton, would never do that! I can't wait till this president is out of office. We need to heal from the the last 7 years. God help us all.
Senator Biden was my first choice, but he didn't make it to Super Tuesday.

Way to go Joe, say out loud what 82% of America feels, boy is it refreshing to hear someone take this administration to task, beside KO.
Domenico, were you reading my comments?  (wink, wink) Biden is definitely showing the "attack dog" qualities pundits point to as necessary for an effective veep.
Thanks Dubya McSmirky, for helping rally the Democratic Party back together behind Obama!!

You irrelevant, lying sack of failure.
Malarkey by any other name is still the same ish different day.
Well, well it appears that "Psychic Reader" McCain's predictions come from Barack Obama's campaign promises.  I knew that "Bush Hugger" McCain couldn't come up with any original ideas on his own.

Too bad that "Psychic Reader" McCain's crystal ball of republican dung didn't tell him the truth, he won't be president ever.

Go Obama 08/12!
Way to go Joe!  George W may become known as the Great Uniter--any Dem that could vote for "my friend"  McSame after he jumped on this moron's bandwagon today has a deathwish for this great country of ours. (and PS--take away Traitor Joe's committee assignments--the guy truly belongs to them.)
Dialog with our enemies, you know we use to do that once upon a time in this country.  When we had competent leadership in the White House things were alot differnt.  Do you remember when?

FDR talked to Russia - Murderess Dictator Stalin to defeat Hitler
Kennedy talked to - Nikita S. Khrushchev removing missile bases from Cuba
Nixon talked to China – Communist threat, to end the war in Vietnam
Regan talked to the USSR – Evil Empire that wanted to bury our children.

Diplomacy, diplomacy you see it is always cheaper to talk first before you bomb and lay waste to our enemies.  Just think we may have been able to save over 4000 American lives in Iraq, and saved 12 billion a month if we kept talking.

We can not force our ideology on other countries beliefs; it has been proven trough out history!  If you want to use nukes or gasoline fire bombs and wipe out most of the population like we did in Germany and Japan it may have worked then, but now the rest of the world would think we are insane!

The one thing about Saddam Hussein he took no SHITT from any of these people that are controlling Iraq now!  Yes he was a nasty dictator that used the chemical weapons that the US gave him back in the 80’s to kill Kurdish threats and Iranian Solders. You see Saddam Hussein seen these people as threats to has regime and government, he knew how to handle these people.  Further, Iran was scared to death of him and did not dare to step foot Iraq.  We could have used Saddam Hussein as a puppet if we were smart!  We could have paid him to do our dirty work with Al Qaeda and Iran like we did in 80’s when Regan was president.  Bush does not know how to think on that level he is to arrogant and stupid to know he had everything going for him after 9/11.

You see by keeping Saddam Hussein in power until we got off of fossil fuels would have been the smart and prudent thing to do.  We could have positioned ourselves to deal with him on another level at a different time.  Bush just made the most bone-headed foreign policy mistake in our countries history hopefully the next president can get us out of this mess.

Obama 08
Great job Joe!  You are Da Man.  You do us all proud.
Finally, the real battle has begun. The Democrats
have come out swinging.
Joe Biden has been involved in foreign relations his entire career and has the right to erupt when someone who probably couldn't find the Middle East on a map before he bombed it says something so stupid. Frankly, bull**** is the nicest explanation. Because those remarks coming from our so-called president can be very damanging and dangerous.

I doubt he's auditioning for veep, just railing at someone who has no clue and who started one senseless war and could probably do it again before January.

And now inappropriate during a time of celebration for Israel. Did Bush miss that occasion, did his briefing staff already bail, or does he simply not care about his country at all?
It might not be politically prudent since Delaware is already a Blue state with only a few electoral votes, but Biden would certainly balance Senator Obama very nicely and produce a very effective ticket from a policy perspective.
Too bad Biden backed down from the bullsh*t comment--because that is exactly what Bush's nonsense was...
All of you that support McCain/Bush that are under 40 years of age should enlist into the U.S. Marines and Army immediately.  If you believe in the war in Iraq and the Surge you should show your Patriotism and support our troops now!  Our troops in Iraq are tired and need a rest the have gone back 3 to 5 times because of the stop loss policy of this admistration.

Your employers well give you a leave of absence your kids and families will understand I am sure.  You need to put your time and money where your mouth is and enlist as fast and as soon as you can.  There is no better way to support our troops than by joining our Armed Forces Immediately.  I listen to all of you that support this war its time for you to put your money and your time were your mouth is.  IF YOU CAN TALK THE TALK THAN YOU CAN WALK THE WALK!  IF YOU BELIEVE IN THIS WAR, SHOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE ABOUT OUR TROOPS!  SO COME ON AND GET INTO THE FIGHT!  AMERICA NEEDS YOU TODAY!

NOTE: ALL OF YOU THAT ARE TOO OLD AND HAVE DISABILTIES THAT CANNOT SERVE.  SHOULD PAY EXTRA THIS TAX SEASON TO SHOW YOUR PATRIOTISM AND SUPPORT!
Straight to the point.  GOP is hiding behind name calling this season.  NOT THIS TIME !!
About time! Understandably Senator Biden is outraged.  Seems the Republicans will need to get another method of campaigning - for 2012!
Damn I love this guy! He would have been a great president! He deserves a high level position regardless of who gets the nomination. In fact I wish he would visit this forum. He'd call out all you petty whiners from both camps and expose you for simpletons you are.

1-20-09!
What "NeoNazi" Bush needs is a sense of honesty.  He has always told us feel good lies in order to sell his snakeoil charms.

I can't wait to hear Keith Olbermann tonight ripping into "Warmonger" Bush and making tremendous fun of "psychic Reader" McCain's ludicrous predictions from his crystal ball of republican dung.  Keith had a great special comment last night, probably the best he's ever done and tonight I expect him to outdo himself again.

Go Obama 08/12!
Thank you Mr. Bush for uniting the Democratic party.  I was afraid that we might not be able to come together, but you are coming to our rescue!
I love this guy.. speaking to the IGNORANCE of George Bush.. exposing him for that double talk express him and McCain ride on often..  Big brass my friend.. George Bush is a serious joke.. and so is the republican party these days.. People have caught on to your games repubs.. people are tired of being suckered and having their patriotism used against them for your self fulfilling purposes.. I just can bring my self to voting for anyone that shares George Bush's view or sides with anyone that has a 80+% disapproval rating. FOR ALL THOSE WHO WILL VOTE FOR MCCAIN.. I know it is your right to vote for who you want but if you are DEMOCRAT, you should be ashamed of yourself for even considering voting for a REPUBLICAN of this nature.  I would hate to still be an American soldier depending on Americans like you to determine whether I came home from THE OIL WAR IN IRAQ or not.. THAT IS EXTREMELY SCARY... NOT Barack Obama.. it doesn't take policy to get our troops the hell out of the OIL WAR IN IRAQ..
From Sen. Obama's Audacity of Hope:
"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Obama's father and grandfather were Muslim. He attended a Koranic school for 4 years. He did not claim any relationship with the Christian faith until he was 28, and has since renounced his pastor Rev. wright, his church, and black liberation theology of Christiany.

Face it: Obama's a guy with Musilm sympathies. This will show in his foreign policy, and the world will be a better or worse place for it.  I do not want to take my chances.
Go, Biden!  I've always liked Mr. Biden, even though he sometimes makes the mistake of opening-mouth-insert-foot, he is one of the least appreciated, knowledgeable, honest, and truly experienced persons in Washington.  He would also make a great VP, Secretary of Defense, or Secretary of State.
I love Joe Biden. One of the few politicians who tells you what he thinks without watering it down for our oh-so-sensitive ears.
Nice jib-jawing from a twit who loves the sound of his own voice, got caught plagiarizing another man's speech, suffers from "manic-obsessive running of the mouth" per liberal columnist Richard Cohen, and who infamously called Obama "articulate...and clean."

All Joe Biden has done with his idiotic comments is to again remind us all--Republicans and Democrats alike--why he'll never be President.

You stay classy, Joe!
Biden should be first on the list of possible VP candidates, the guy is brilliant.
If Bush had made these remarks referencing Hillary, no one would have said squat!  SHE would have been on the hot seat instead of Bush.  Let's be sure to protect BO at ALL costs since he REALLY does not know what he is doing.  Double standard. hypocritical.  Sickening.
VP?
Wow! I'm Canadian and I'm aghast! Your president really has issues!

Seriously how did you guys put this guy in office for two terms?

I hope you choose well this time around!

God Bless!
you damn right, joe! or should i say mr. vice president?
Bush is right in his comments about Obama.

Face it: Obama's a guy with Muslim sympathies. This will show in his foreign policy, and the world will be a better or worse place for it.  I do not want to take my chances.
Senator Biden... You got it right the first time.
ADMIRAL FALLON FOR VP.
That will put some military gusto behind Obama's hand to knock out punch this dunce of a PREZ and his awkward sidekick (mccain).
well said
In addition to firing Secretaries Gates and Rice, he also so needs to disown his father's Secretary of State Jim Baker and entire Iraq Study Group he appointed.
I agree...Rip him a new one!

It is about time MORE political figures that find the conduct of BUSH deplorable speak out against it. BOTH SIDES!
What do those four dashes mean?
McCain is easy to define you know the Straight Talk Express!

1.Your sons will get drafted for war with Iran, this how we get out of Iraq.

2.$12.00 a gallon gasoline for your Trucks and SUV’s, more wars for oil.

3.Your homes will loose 50% more of there value, that’s your dumb fault you bought it you can loose it.

4.Father of the next great Depression in America

5.If you get sick that’s your fault. No Health Care not the Governments Job.

6.Pardons Bush and Channey for lying about WMD’s and Al-Qaeda in Iraq
WOW!!!  He should watch what he says if indeed he wants to be the #2 man.  The masses threw the book at Dean when he yelled "YeeHaw".  I agree that something needed to be said, but a rant like this does not seems very statesmanlike.  Bush and McNutt will use these quotes in the future, wait and see....
Go Joe.

Now Hillary supporters, tell me you are really going to vote for McBush?

How could anyone who believes in the same policies that Hillary Clinton does even entertain the idea.  Forget the stupid political games that each candidate has played and think about the future of our country.  This isn't about your "team" losing.  This is about the future of our country, or lack thereof if you vote McCain out of spite.
Bush “oughta get a life.â€

beautifull...
:)
Oh, looky… the Repulican Brand is going down the toilet. Bush and McCain need wash their hand’s before leaving these facilities because they’re the one’s that pressed the handle and the leader’s of the repugnican party just sat back and watched for the past 8 years.

Biden is right. This is going to be something to watch in the coming months.
Wasn't it just a year ago that "NeoNazi" Bush was making deals with Sunni terrorists to stop blowing up US soldiers and start fighting Al Qaeda?  How hypocritical of "Flip Flop" Bush to pay Sunni terrorists to kill Al Qaeda and then berate Obama for wanting to negotiate with terrorists in order to stop the "NeoNazi" Bush's NeverEnding War.

Go Obama 08/12!
First Tom Davis, then Kieth Olberman, now Dodd. Looks like people are finally standing up to this president. Bout time, too; he's been getting a free ride for far too long.
Whats the deal? Obama said he'd talk with terrorists. You guys are All sheep.Obama is not Jesus yet,You all turn your heads when he says or does something wrong.Look,He (Obama) Hangs out with some really questionable people yet,You look the other way...Give me a break...I bet this wont get posted...
Biden trying to make up to Obama for calling him clean and articulate?Biden was axed from the campaign by democratic democrats after this statement---too racist.
