BBC has an interesting article on what’s going on in our oceans.
Globally, the seas now have an average pH of about 8.1 - down about 0.1 since the dawn of the industrial age. Around the vents, it fell as low as 7.4 in some places. But even at 7.8 to 7.9, the number of species present was 30% down compared with neighbouring areas. Coral was absent, and species of algae that use calcium carbonate were displaced in favour of species that do not use it.
Snails were seen with their shells dissolving. There were no snails at all in zones with a pH of 7.4.

Man was given the task to take care of the earth, in fact, to rule it. And this is still how it is meant to be. Sin was a diversion, but there is no plan B. We are still to rule the earth, and we need to bring freedom and salvation to the earth, as well as to people, even if people naturally is our main concern. (See Romans 4:13 and 5:17)

I usually watch the TED talks, they are hardly boring. In fact, I find TED.com to be truly one of the best sites on the web. Today I had a night off, and I spent some of it browsing through TED, randomly. I found Jonathan Harris’s talk about his internet art projects, what he calls the internet’s secret stories. For some reason I’ve missed it before. What he’s done (with Sep Kamvar and maybe some other people) is to visualize what people write about. It’s awesome.
This one, for instance. It’s called We feel fine.

It goes and looks for thousands of words associated with feelings in blog posts in the last few hours. You can browse the results in a multitude of ways. This one is a breakdown into different piles, where every pile represents a certain feeling.

Here the recent feelings swirls around in a whimsical dance.

You also get the age breakdown. People in their twenties write more about their feelings than other groups.
It’s quite astonishing what you can do with imagination. Check out more work by Jonathan Harris.
