zepto- (symbol z) is a prefix in the SI system of units denoting a factor of 10−21.
Adopted in 1991, it comes from the French sept or Latin septem, meaning seven, since it is equal to 1/10007.
An example of its use would be for the charge on the electron: 160 zeptocoulombs (zC).

The metric system was introduced in 1795 with six prefixes. The other dates relate to recognition by a resolution of the CGPM. The 1948 recognition of the micron by the CGPM was abrogated in 1967.
