YP_BP_R is the analog video signal carried by component video cable in consumer electronics. The green cable carries Y, the blue cable carries P_B and the red cable carries P_R.

YP_BP_R^[1] is a color space used in video electronics, in particular in reference to component video cables. YP_BP_R is the analog version of the YC_BC_R color space; the two are numerically equivalent, but YP_BP_R is designed for use in analog systems whereas YC_BC_R is intended for digital video.

Being that people often get tongue-tied trying to say YP_BP_R quickly they are also commonly referred to as Yipper cables.^[2] YP_BP_R is commonly called "component video", but this is a misnomer, as there are many other types of component video (RGBHV, RGBs, RGsB, Y/C, etc.).

Some video cards come with Video In Video Out (VIVO) ports for connecting to component video devices.

YP_BP_R is converted from the RGB video signal, which is split into three components, Y, P_B, and P_R.^[3]

Y carries luma (brightness) information. P_B carries the difference between blue and luma (B âˆ’ Y). P_R carries the difference between red and luma (R âˆ’ Y).

Sending a green signal would be redundant, as it can be derived using the blue, red and luma information.

YP_BP_R cables are not physically different from composite video cables and can be used interchangeably.
