One requiring comment is that I've removed the reference to its original name being Lud, as this is a fable of Geoffrey of Monmouth, not historical. The earliest known reference is as Londinium. er, it was Galfridus not Geoffrey of Monmouth... otherwise I agree that the derivation is suspect. I did actually in the original article have a significant caveat about the Lud nomenclature however it looks like someone took my sceptical note away. sjc
