Sympa is an open source (GNU GPL) mailing list software. Its name is an acronym for Systeme de Multi-Postage Automatique (i.e. Automatic Mailing System in French language, and also means "nice" in french).

[edit] Features

Sympa's features include: Bulk emailer, Service messages and web pages defined by templates, Subscriber information stored in a RDBMS, and an external antiviral plugin.

Data is stored in a relational database such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.

This can be highly configurable with multiple list single subscription, Mail to List etc.

[edit] History

Sympa development started in 1995 and was first released in 1997. It's initial goal was to ensure continuity with the TULP list manager, produced partly by the initial author of Sympa: Christophe Wolfhugel. The initial version of Sympa included authentication, flexible command management, high performances in internal data access, and object oriented code for easy code maintenance.[1]

As new features were required, Sympa code base gradually evolved in a full fledge mailing list manager.
