1 January - The display of cigarette packets in advertisements are banned by the Malaysian federal government. March - The 1995 General Elections June - Metrovision, the only channel broadcast in Klang Valley is launched. June - Proton Perdana, Malaysia's first luxury cars is launched. 30 June - 20 people were killed in the landslide at Genting Highlands slip road near Karak Highway. July - The Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque in Kuala Terengganu is fully constructed. This is the first floating mosque in Malaysia. 10 July - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad celebrates his 70th birthday. August - Proton Satria hatchback is launched. 3 August - The KTM Komuter Malaysia's first commuter electrify train services begin in operation. 15 September - 34 people are killed in the plane crash near Tawau Airport in Tawau, Sabah. October - Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 (ASW 2020) is launched. 19 October - The new federal administrative centre of Putrajaya is established. 29 November - Sabah Air Helicopter that brought 11 Petronas Worker crash at Samarang Sea around 10.30am on Wednesday 12 December - The STAR Light Rail Transit (LRT) (Light Rail Transit) began operations in Kuala Lumpur. It was the first LRT system in the city.
