I think you need to go direct to Nokia on this, and please update with any progress (or lack of) that you make!
Best of luck!

You need install PCsuite before download firmware update, don't disconnect cable from the phone while update and everything will be fine.

ÙNokia will fix your phone for free if it's under warranty, if they can't fix it, they will replace it.
So don't worry about it.
Good luck,

I followed the instruction till the last letter...Downloaded and installed latest PCSuite, backed up my phone's data, battery was full, connected to power source, and General mode was set...As the first poster said I got 2-3 errors...Then all started to goin well untill the very end...I got an error...Phone was dead...Then I followed the advice I found somewhere to remove the battery, wait a few minutes and then try to switch the phone on...No luck...Phone remained dead...Wont switch ON...
Anyhow Im sure Nokia will fix the thing...But...Im on the road...and there is no Nokia Centar around...And I need a phone, so I bought a new one...Im VERY sorry for my not-so-nice words in previous post, but Im pi**** a lot...

When i say clean system, I mean a system with latest updates without any 3rd party software installed.....specially if you run intel based Mac.
As the matter of fact Im a Mac user and I have XP service pack 2 clean as a whistle installed on my shiny Mac...Since I dont need that sys for anything except Nokia firmware updates /cause their developers are too lazy to make Mac version of their latest apps and tools/, I dont have anything installed on it...Except Nokia PC suite and updater app downloaded from Nokia site...

Software testers probably didn't test this firmware update with different resident apps and there could be some conflicts, that is why I always use a clean system for any firmware updates that could damage device because of the some conflict with 3rd party apps.
VERY clever thinking...Agreed on that 100%...But...
It is, how to say, very hard to beleive, that Nokia phone owners should make for themselves one more copy of the sys installed just for firmware updates...Then again, if there is a potential damage of the phone involved in updating process, developers should find a better way for doing that BEFORE they release a software...As a small shareware Mac software developer I have 7 different Macs here with different configurations just for testing 3 apps Im developing...And it NEVER crossed my mind to release something not fully tested...Although my apps does not deal with any hardware...
I know that 3 of us here who ended up with dead E61 are minority, and such a huge company like Nokia will survive for sure without 3 unsatisfied customers, but it is a matter of principle...
Anyway, to conclude, I know that I will never update any firmware on any phone in the future...I was stupid enough to try once...Enough for me...

Anything that can be destructive should have a rollback procedure. There should be some sort of recovery built into the process. There should always be a 'way back' if things go wrong.
Very worrying...

"Apple Firmware Restoration CD
...The Firmware Restoration CD is used to restore the firmware of an ... to original factory condition.
It can only be used to restore the Firmware after an interrupted or failed update...."

Is it too hard to make something like that on Symbian?..I dont think so...

You'll have to wait until Jan 2007 then you'll have everything you ever wanted in the phone, and I'm sure the firmware update will be easy and safe with recovery option, but from Apple.
