Think of the G1 as the Zune of iPhones …
Color Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster unimpressed by T-mobile’s G1, the first mobile phone to use Google’s (GOOG) Android mobile operating system. Though the device is certain to be a viable competitor in the current mobile market, it’s no iPhone. Apple (AAPL), says Munster, has nothing to worry about. The G1 will have “little or no impact” on near-term iPhone sales. “To use a baseball analogy, when Apple comes out with a product, they try to hit home runs, but Google’s Android strategy is swinging for base hits,” Munster wrote in a research note to clients Tuesday. “Today’s announcement in itself does not change anything; however, if over the next two years Google has many similar small announcements, it will become a greater threat to the iPhone. … While the G1 is a legitimate competitor with the iPhone, we believe it will have little or no impact on near-term iPhone sales.”

This is the PC wars all over again.
Apple with leading technology, alternative with me-too.
Apple tightly controlled infrastructure, others less-so.
Apple with premium prices, others lower price, deeper discount potential.
It may not be very interesting now, but when Sprint, Verizon and others use Gphone to hang on to customers with expiring plans, it will get more so.
Apple will miss a bet if they don’t get the iPhone running everywhere (and soon).
Down the line, will I get a bigger discount by booking my Hilton reservation from an iPhone or from a Gphone?
With iTunes Apple took the lead in making “deals” with the music industry. Google already has “deals” with advertisers, and now they have another outlet. Can Apple long compete in this space? If so, it will be more transformative than anything they have ever done.

Can u please comment me back and let me know how you feel about that personally? I’d truly appreciate it..:-)

Posted by Shawn Drewry at September 24th, 2008 at 10:58 amgoogle phone is nothing more than t-mobile sidekick
truth is that apple kicked google’s fancy behind and google doesn’t know how to admit defeat
iphone already does 100000x (a google more) than this clunker ever will
give it up larry and sergey, you have too many “me toos” in the fire and no innovation
