If users of your application are frustrated that they constantly have to log in to Facebook, or if it's inconvenient for your application to incessantly prompt the user to log in to Facebook, we hope that this functionality will be useful. You may notice that there's a new "Save my login info" checkbox on the Facebook application login page.
To take advantage of infinite sessions, your application should permanently store a user's session key and include it in method calls. You won't ever need to establish a new session on behalf of that user, unless the user explicitly logs out of your application. To see infinite sessions in action, check out the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto - once logged in to Facebook for the first time, users should never have to log in again.
As always, we respect the privacy of our users, and that's why we require users to enter their passwords when establishing an infinite session. Users can log out of any application (for which a session has been established) on the newly redesigned privacy page.
To learn more about infinite sessions (including how to obtain one), check out the updated authentication guide.
Hey Developers! We've got a crew here at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas all week. We'll be hanging out at the festival talking about Facebook Platform and how to join our developer community.
In addition, we'll also be sponsoring BarcampAustin, hanging out there all day, doing presentations, and buying dinner for everyone.
If you'd like to talk about how to integrate your app with the Facebook Platform drop Dave Morin a message and we'll try to meet up with you throughout the week.
Also, be sure to request an invite to our exclusive "friends.get party" on Tuesday here.
Along with this, we've made it possible to access Platform purely through Flash (via our new crossdomain.xml file) and/or Javascript (via the callback parameter). This means you can use Platform even if you don't have the ability to modify the code on your server - just use plain old html and some cleverly inserted <embed> or <script> tags.
Finally, we added some features you guys requested, including a bunch of new functions supported within FQL and the fields "is_app_user" in the user table and "size" in the album table.
