The BlogRodent: A Charismatic Anglican Waiting To Happen

Filed under: General — Brad Drell @ 12:12 am

Read it all. He is talking about the theological weakness of Pentacostalism. A snippit:

Classical Pentecostals need to think about this. One things we talk about the most in our circle is “the Pentecostal distinctive,†which is typically cited as the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues as the initial, physical evidence.†This is the Pentecostal distinctive above all others.

However, one of the “tags†we’ve long been known by, or called ourselves by at the least, has been “Full Gospel,†as a way of saying, we’re completely dependent on the Bible as God’s revealed will and plan.

In fact, at our movement’s inception, at Parham’s prompting of several adult students, the Baptism of the Spirit was experienced as a result of an intensive study of Scripture. Scripture came first, experience and doctrine came out of that.

Somewhere, we’ve lost our way.

As long as a single doctrine holds sway in our Fellowship as the single Pentecostal distinctive, we cannot be fully reliant on the Scriptures as our guide for faith, doctrine, and practice. We need to maintain our true distinctive, and that is: sola scriptura.

Rich just needs to meet Martyn Minns or Geoff Schmitt, and then it would be all over…

Would that he could read any of David Watson’s,Michael Green’s or a goodly number of English
Anglican Charismatics writings. One In The Spirit and Called And Committed(Discipleship)
by the late David Watson would show the real solid teaching that comes from Anglican
Charismatics. The early Anglican Charismatics such as Michael Harper incorporated a good bit
of the language of classical Pentecostalism but Watson and Green’s incorporation of the reality
of charismatic experience within an Evangelical Anglican model without picking up the Pentecostal
the Pentecostal molds and the initial evidence theology
(not even most of the Pentecostals believe that any more).

I have put online, into the “public domain” a book that refutes
cessationist teaching by proving that the gifts of the Spirit are for
the
church today. Please incorporate it (for free) into your teaching. My
book/site may be accessed at
www.pentecostal-tongues-theology.org thanks for consideration
