ESPN Featured Comment Of The Week

ESPN regularly scours its message boards for its cleverest, boldest, most enlightening comments, and this is one that they chose ...

ESPN's Pedro Gomez Drives America's Young Female Population to Lesbianism

I was going to do something about the Phillies here but since Sussman will be live-blogging it tonight and it's come to my attention that there are many, many, many Deadspin readers who despise the abundance of Philadelphia coverage that's invaded this site since my unwelcome takeover, I chose this photo instead. It's nothing noteworthy or newsy, but I find it captivating just for the inexplicable image of Pedro Gomez's head floating in the background. Was this some sort of sorority hazing Anytime Pedro Gomez's head pops up, those rushing Alpha Phi must motorboat a sister. It's an intriguing concept. More »

Stuart Scott is Desperate to Avoid Any Photographic Evidence of Him Chatting Up Cheerleaders

Many ESPN personalities and other sports-reporter level famous individuals are paranoid about humiliating photos of them popping up on the internet. Thankfully, most of the recognizable faces at the WWL have made peace with the notion that, yes, if they are photographed gawking at Kendra Wilkinson or leaving bumbling voice mail messages to girls in Dewey Beach, it's newsworthy to Sports Blog America. Then there's Stu Scott, who's been justifiably furious over certain rumors regarding his late night text-message habits and pretty much sworn off the credibility of blogs forever because of said rumor. Fair enough. The story that Jonathan Bachman, a photographer for the Gambit Daily, told me about Scott's behavior during last night's Monday Night Football game, he has made it abundantly clear he's not going to let the internet sully his reputation ever again. Well This Seems Rather Harsh

The "greater than" meme; so overworked and cliched that Combudsman Iracane banned it from this site more than a month ago. But over at ESPN, it's cutting edge. The Leader decided to use it in a hard-hitting feature about how Eli Manning has surpassed his brother as the more highly-regarded quarterback. As if that wasn't evident previously when, oh, just thinking out loud here, Eli won the Super Bowl. More »

You Try To Say "176 Punt Return Yards" 12 Times Per Day And See What Comes Out of Your Mouth

This page contained an embedded video. Click here to view it.

Robert Flores, ESPN's live afternoon SportsCenter man, fell victim to the WWL's deadly live television format and stumbled over his words while relaying the Saints/Vikings rundown. (wasn't that bad. Well, he didn't fart. ) Instead of "176 punt return yards" it came out "176 punt retard", which is probably a common mistake when you're trapped in a highlight trance for five hours. Based on his boneheaded performance last night, it's also a fitting nickname for Vikings punter Chris Kluwe.

Lil' Wayne Is Fast Becoming ESPN's Most Popular Blogger

Rapper Lil' Wayne continues to infiltrate the WWL with his blog posts and ESPN's sports nation seems to be embracing him wholeheartedly. The editors seemed reluctant to let him sully their pristine pages with his nonsensical sports jizzle, but now appear to be stuck with him. Wayne unveiled his second blog entry yesterday and it continues to be equally bewildering and mesmerizing.
First of all, wow. I am overwhelmed by the response to my first blog entry. I think I read the first 402 comments. A lot of them were crazy. A thousand comments in the first day? That makes me happy. I've been telling people, "Man I got a blog on ESPN," and they go, "Yeah, boy, but you're latest song is crazy!" and I'm like, "I know, but did you see my blog?" I am so excited to have this opportunity.

But ... I Don't Wanna Watch That

You laughed at my theory that the ESPN site is edited and designed by robots, but every day the evidence mounts in my favor. Only something with a heart of cold metal could let this slip through; either that, or they're saying once again that they think there's nothing on their network we won't watch. Come on Leader, have a human read your deck heads occasionally. Norby probably won't fire you if you tinker with the wording a little in extreme cases. More »

Even Cris Carter Doesn't Listen To Cris Carter

Before we even get into it, please be aware, Chris Carter, that Will Leitch had nothing to do with this post. He's not even aware of it, so there's no need to "take him out," as you're fond of saying. The offending party is Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports (I'll find you his address if you want it). This isn't going to make you happy, just so you know. But hey, it's your own fault. More »

Lil' Wayne Brings Much Needed Grizzy Element To ESPN

The rapper personally responsible for rejuvenating hip hop has now cashed in a huge chunk of his street credibility for a chance to blog for ESPN. His first entry was published today ( Title: AARON RODGERS 'HAS BEEN WONDERFUL') and it's surprisingly more coherent than many of Stephen A. Smith's face-typed ramblings. But it's still probably not going to make anyone who works at ESPN less terrified of him. Actually, based on the editor's note introducing the item, it appears that's precisely the reason they published it to begin with: More »
