(LifeWire) -- When Christine Durst, 45, had her first child in 1987, she received a package from her boss while recuperating in the hospital. But instead of a baby gift, she found something else: year-end tax forms to complete.
"My son lay sleeping in his bed next to mine while I toiled away in the middle of the night," Durst recalls. "I was the business manager. If I didn't do the work, it wouldn't get done."
She worked at that job until 1993, two years after the birth of her second child, a girl. Today, her children grown, Durst works from home. But she regrets missing those early years with the kids. "I felt tremendous guilt about being away from home, and I felt terrible about the stress I brought home from the job."
While Durst, of Woodstock, Connecticut, looks back with regrets, Karol Rose, 64, of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, doesn't. Rose, an executive with FlexPaths, a women-owned consulting business specializing in workplace flexibility, raised two boys while working full time, taking off only a few months when they were born. "I think my sons liked that I had a job," Rose says. "You know, too much focus isn't great for children, either."

News

As you've probably realized, things are a bit hectic here to say the least.

I'm not sure that I will be blogging for quite a while.

I have a night job. Yes, I took it. For the benefits of course. Not easy to come by around here.

Kids are BUSY. The two little ones are REALLY testing boundaries and are having attachment issues.

Hubby working almost 7 dys a week while I am at home during the day w/ the kids.

Our jobs were both kind of tied into the CA Real Estate Market so finances are not a pretty sight around here now.

My father has been given 2-3 monthe to live.

Life not easy just now. Not much time for a blog.

Wishing you all a very happy adoption and family life.

Azbuka

FYI

Azbuka

Dear CA Momma,

I am the editor of the only literary magazine for Russian-speaking children and their families living in the US. The magazine called "Malenkaya Kompaniya" (ISSN 1933-6020) is printed in NY and mailed to subscribers all over the country (and to some other countries, too). It encourages young kids and teens to read, both in Russian and English, and helps families that are interested in keeping the heritage language. We publish creative works of our readers (poems, stories, translations and drawings). Each issue is dedicated to a children's writer/genre and has a bilingual section where we publish English poems with Russian translations or Russian poems with English translations.
The magazine is done on volunteer basis, without any financial support from anybody, except for my family. That is why we need more subscribers. I would greatly appreciate if you could include a link to our website http://azbuka.universitet.us/ in your blog and pass the info to everybody who might be interested.

Thanks for your support,
Sincerely,
Alla.
