DAY'S END ROUNDUP

@ 6:53 pm by Andy Barr

Barack Obama’s move to the middle has yet to resonate with the polls, liberal bloggers assert Tuesday. Congress getting an all-time low approval rating and former Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev weighing in on the presidential campaign also have bloggers talking.

One would think that as Obama shifts right, he would make some gains in the polls, but that is not the case, writes Open Left’s Chris Bowers. TalkLeft’s Big Tent Democrat says that while Obama may not have pick up voters, he has definitely upset his liberal base.

Congress slipping to a 9-percent approval, according to the latest Rasmussen poll, is providing fodder for one conservative blogger to bash House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey writes that Pelosi and Reid have achieved what was only joked about before, but concedes the number isn’t necessarily good news for GOP members who lag behind Democrats in individual polls.

And Gorbachev hit both Obama and John McCain for their “Cold Warâ€-like military spending plans. Gorbachev wrote in a Russian paper that the current level of military spending is dangerous and said neither McCain nor Obama have plans to address that, The Trail reports. The Page adds that Gorbachev said military spending is a main contributor to a downturn in the economy.
