Seems the only person around who thinks McCain nailed it is Pat Buchanan. He’s as delusional as McCain. Maybe when this is all over with they can share a room at the nursing home and Sister Sarah could be their nurse. She’ll take them for sleigh rides.
From TPM:
The post-debate snap polls are out, showing that Barack Obama won the debate.
In CNN’s poll of debate-watchers, Obama won by a 54%-30% margin. In the CBS poll of uncommitted debate-watchers, Obama won 39%-27%.
The CNN poll’s numbers were just read on TV, showing that Obama is seen as better on Iraq by 51%-47%, McCain has a 51%-46% edge on terrorism — a subject where he’s usually done much better than this — and Obama wins 59%-37% on the economy. On the current financial crisis, Obama wins 57%-36%
Both the first presidential debate and the Veep debate showed the Dem winning — and both were followed by the Democratic ticket gaining more and more in the polls.
Late Update: Some more numbers from the CNN poll were read just now on the air: Obama is seen as the stronger leader 54%-43%, and is more likable 65%-28%.
The Times reveals that Brokaw has “played a pivotal role out of public view, both within NBC and in its dealings with the campaign of John McCain in particular. He advocated to get Olbermann and Matthews off the debates.
Yah, I can hardly wait to hear the questions he picks tonight. You know, why doesn’t it bother them that Joe Scarborough is a Republican tool? Why doesn’t it bother them that Pat Buchanan is on every MSNBC show, cumming in his pants at the mention of Sister Sarah’s name? Why is Brokaw hosting a national weekly show when he shows so much biased, let alone a debate where he picks the questions?
On Meet the Press two days ago: MR. BROKAW: Chuck, a very senior Republican was startled the other day when he called me and said, `What in the world is going on in Florida? Why are we in trouble there?’ Gee Tommy, why are they calling you? Perhaps hoping you can do something to help them out there? Anywho……. we’ll see how he performs tonight. Maybe he’ll say ” A VERY senior Republican called in the next 10 questions. Oh, and the last 5 were phoned in by the Council on Foreign Relations. Sorry citizens…… I felt their questions were much more important than yours. wink wink
Here’s some info on tonight’s debate. It will be interesting to see what questions the biased Brokaw picks.
Tonight’s presidential debate will employ a town hall format, in which audience members will question the candidates directly.
When: Starts at 9 p.m. Detroit time. Expected to last 90 minutes.
Where: From Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.
How to watch: It is to be broadcast on most major networks and cable news channels. You also can watch it live on freep.com.
Rules: –The questions will be culled from a group of 100 to 150 uncommitted likely voters in the audience and another one-third to come via the Internet. Brokaw selects which questions to ask from written queries submitted prior to the debate.
–The Gallup Organization makes sure the questioners reflect the demographic makeup of the nation.
–An audience member isn’t allowed to switch questions and will not be allowed a follow-up either. His or her microphone will be turned off after the question is read and a camera shot will only be shown of the person asking — not reacting.
–The moderator may not ask followups or make comments.
–McCain and Obama will be provided with director’s chairs, but they’re also allowed to stand. They can’t roam past their “designated area†marked on the stage and are not supposed to ask each other direct questions.

America’s “Stupid Quotient” appears to be on the rise, again. Some have long said it’s directly related to the “Good Ol’ Boy” phenomenon. Now it appears we’re seeing the “Hockey Mom” effect.
It’s always been there but in numbers small enough to ignore. Then along came George Bush. The SQ-index surged and hovered near the 50% range during the 2000 elections, dropped off a little, then climbed back up into that area again during the elections of 2004.
But, in recent months, those numbers have shrunk down into the low-30’s range. Were people finally waking up? A feeling of glee swept the land. Then along came Sarah Palin:
(CNN) — A national poll of people who watched the vice presidential debate Thursday night suggests that Democratic Sen. Joe Biden won, but also says Republican Gov. Sarah Palin exceeded expectations.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. said 51 percent of those polled thought Biden did the best job, while 36 percent thought Palin did the best job.
But respondents said the folksy Palin was more likable, scoring 54 percent to Biden’s 36 percent. Seventy percent said Biden was more of a typical politician.
Both candidates exceeded expectations — 84 percent of the people polled said Palin did a better job than they expected, while 64 percent said Biden also exceeded expectations.
On the question of the candidates’ qualifications to assume the presidency, 87 percent of those polled said Biden is qualified and 42 percent said Palin is qualified. (emphasis mine)
36 + 54 + 84 + 42 = 216 / 4 = 54%
With those numbers, it looks like the SQ-index has surged back up. Lord help us.
